Way late with this but I had an absolute blast playing #videographer for the #folkallianceinternational last weekend in #kansascity I met so many talented musicians and got to work with an amazing team. So thank you all (wherever you may be) for making it a magical weekend. People of course want to know what my favorite moment at #fai2017, as I want to know yours too?!?! I don't have one, single, I can't imagine if you fully embraced it as I did that you could have a single one... But the fact that my mom was able to join me on Sunday for the second year in a row was spectacular for these reasons. 1) I was able to introduce her to #SamBaker He literally changed my life this weekend, with his conversation and performances. 2) Mom and I were able to sing together and we pretty much remembered all the words 3) We chair danced to an Irish Salsa fusion band, and it was awesome, and 4) to see her face light up when Billy Bragg played Rock Island Line. 5) When people she's never met come up and say "Are you the MOM!!!!! I love your conversations with your son that he posts on facebook!!!" and she can say "I tell him not to post those!!!!" and then laughs and laughs. She is a constant source of joy to me and I'm glad I could share the day with her. So here's a special set of experts from Sunday's FAI Folk Festival #momtalks : Me - "Mom, we have to hurry I really want you to hear Sam Baker perform" Mom - "Oh!!! Ok!!!" @ashleyjonesband - "There's Sam Baker now" [Sam Baker arrives at the top of the escalator we are standing next to, looking like a million dollars, guitar in hand ready for his 1:00 show.] Me - "Sam, I want to thank you for your show last night, your story and songs of what happened to you in Peru tore me in two." Sam - "Thank you for telling me that, it made my day." Me - "I'd like to introduce you to my mother, Mary" Sam - "It's very nice to meet you, Mary is a special name in my family" Mom - [great big smile] " it is in mine too" Sam - "I like that we have that in common, I mean I guess it is a significant name for a lot of people, but especially our families!" [everyone laughs] [We go see Sam Baker perform in a Woody Guthrie Tribute performance, and sing "This land is your land" it was epic" Mom - "Woody Guthrie wrote that song? I thought it was Pete Seger" Me - "I think Woody wrote every song, and we've just been re-arranging them ever since" (at Folk Alliance International)
