If he had a soulmate after everything he had done, he often thought, the revolver must surely be a part of their mark. It took nearly two months for him to notice the mark on his arm but once he did, he knew with a baffling sort of surety exactly when it had bloomed to life on his skin. The moment he had shook the hand of his new commander, Gabriel Reyes, an arrow had formed on his bicep.
@classywastelandbread and I are back on our bullshit, so here’s your halloween preview of a project we haven’t worked on in like.....a year. We each posted our bit on ao3 but as it turns out ao3 organizes by author name so we don’t get to show off what a fanfiction power couple we are.
Overwatch had been dead for about 7 years, and Jesse McCree had been Joel Morricone full time for 5 of those. 8 since the last time he saw Genji, 9 since the last time he’d been to Japan. Surely longer then all of those since he’d seen a picture of Hanzo Shimada in a briefing packet. He's run into a man who looks an awful lot like him, though.
@bluandorange provided some lovely ideas for an Amnesiac Hanzo idea, and well. I am weak to a good au.
R76 valentines week by @r76valentinesevent - Relaxation/First date
The last time Gabriel had a chance to “relax” he’d earned three new scars and been banned from a lovely onsen in Hanamura. At this point the very word was enough to make him twitch. Everyone had started walking wide circles around the word- suggesting he “rest” and “take a vacation” and “tone down the crazy eyes, boss.”
McCree had gotten away with that only because he’d hidden behind Ana, who’d taken one look at him and said the cursed words.
“You need to relax, Gabe.”
“I do not.”
“You’ve got the crazy eyes.”
“That’s what I said.” McCree muttered, and then ducked behind Ana again as Gabe glared him down.
Ana shifted her stace, blocking McCree from Gabriel’s glare and staring him down.
“You’re taking a day off.”
“You’re not the boss of me.”
“I might not be.” She grinned.
“But I know who is.”
“You wouldn’t.”
She pointed to her ear, where there was a green light on her com.
“I already did.”
Gabe took a step back. Ana’s hand dropped to her hip, hand on her sidearm. Gabe spun and starting sprinting, ducking as he heard the pop of discharge to dodge the sleep dart.
He heard her footsteps- taking off after him- but she was a sniper. She wasn’t as good at aiming on the move, and he dodged her next shot by diving down another corridor. Blackwatch base. He just had to make it to the blackwatch wing-
A flash of blue came up from his left and slammed into his side, taking him down in a tangle of limbs and fabric. His head hit the wall and he clenched his eyes shut.
“Ow.”
“Serves you right.” Surely that wasn’t his husband’s voice. Surely he hadn’t just gotten football tackled by Commander Jack Morrison.
He opened his eyes.
Jack was laying across his chest, grinning- his face red and his hair a mess. His stupid coat was tangled between them.
“Got you.”
Gabriel groaned dramatically, flopping his head back to the floor.
“Why won’t you let me do my job.”
“You’re not you when you’re hungry. Take a break, have a snickers.” Jack monotoned. Gabriel squinted at him.
“I think you’ve been watching too much TV.”
Jack shrugged, crossing his arms across Gabe’s chest.
“It’s just been on in the background in my secretary’s office. Also- you. Me. Japan. Now.”
Gabriel blinked.
“What?”
Jack rolled his eyes, pushing himself off of Gabriel’s chest and offering him a hand.
“We’re going on an overdue honeymoon and getting over your fear of onsens.”
“I do NOT have a fear of-”
“Jesse says he touched your shoulder on your way in to the last one and you threw him two yards.”
“He should know better then to-”
“Gabriel.” Jack pouted. “Don’t you trust me to have your back?”
Gabriel scowled.
“That’s cheating.”
“Never on you hubby. Come on.”
Much as he grumbled, Gabriel let Jack pull him away towards the hanger. Maybe a bit of relaxation wouldn’t be so bad with jack beside him.
But he was bringing a weapon into the bath this time.
Hanzo's out of his element in every possible way- out in the desert, called out by a cryptic letter from a brother who'd dissapeared years ago, following a voice on the radio and a pull in his gut. Deadlock Gorge is like nothing he ever could have expected
Update time! been a while since I wrote...anything. So it’s a bit of a short chapter here.
Featuring Tragic Backstory (for like, tracer.) Diners, and getting to know your sibling better.

Valentines day is a crock of shit.” Ana muttered to herself, angrily pouring chocolate into the pan.
“Valentines day is a crock of shit.” She slammed the heart mold plan down on the counter, diving into the cabinet to look for the food coloring.
“Crock. Of. Shit.” She glared at the white chocolate as it melted and threw the red food coloring in, glaring at the splatter as though it personally offended her.
“Valentines day-”
“-is a crock of shit. Why are you making chocolate?”
Ana turned in a single movement and threw the bottle of vanilla extract at Gabriel’s head. He caught it smoothly and held it up to check the label.
“Hey, this is the good stuff. Mind if I join you?”
That caught her off guard.
“....Why.”
He tossed the bottle back, closing the kitchen door behind him and nonchalantly pulling a chair over to block the door.
“Same reason. People to make chocolates for, despite general animosity for this fucking holiday.”
Ana groaned in sympathy, rounding on the counter again to stir the melting chocolate before it burned.
“It’s all bullshit consumerism.”
Gabriel hummed his agreement, pulling his own pot down and putting it next to Ana’s on the stove.
“Complete blatant cash grab.”
“American cultural invention.” Ana added.
“Manifestation of cultural imperialism.” Gabriel turned on the stove.
“Why should you only express your affection once a year?”
“Love your partner every day, not just one bit of preformative bullshit. Pass me the food coloring?”
Ana passed it to him.
“And why should we hold romantic love as the gold standard? Why can’t we have a day to love our family and friends? And Holy Shit that’s a lot of chocolate Gabe.”
Gabriel hummed his agreement, continuing to pour more into the pot.
“We shouldn’t judge our proficiency as people based on whether or not, or how much, chocolate we get on a stupid holiday. Which is why I wouldn’t leave chocolates in the mailboxes of all the blackwatch operatives who didn’t get any. On principle.”
Ana suddenly felt a little bit more self conscious about her batch as she slipped it into the fridge and then started on the pink ones for Fareeha.
“And Ana?”
“Hmm?”
Gabriel didn’t even look up, pouring row after row of chocolates into the mold.
“He’ll love them.”
Ana braced herself, a denial on her tongue, but Gabriel just shot her a look and the wind went out of her sails. She sighed.
“Thanks.”
_____
“Reinhardt?”
The big man looked up from his plate, his face breaking into that wide smile.
“Ah, my lovely Ana! What can I do for you?”
He was too goddamn nice. Too sweet. Too blonde and pretty and- and she took a breath.
And she tossed the box on the counter, trying to look casual.
“I made some for Fareeha and i had some extra chocolate. Thought you might like some.”
Even with her dodge, Reinhardt’s face lit up like the sun.
“Ah!! That is lovely. I would love anything from you, my dear.” His big hands held the box carefully, pulling open the ribbon she’d tied (sloppy, too damn sloppy) with the utmost care. He gasped like the sound a bellows make when he saw all the colors (she’d been careful with the patterns and the white chocolate).
“Ana these are lovely!”
“It’s nothing. I should-” She took a few steps back, her heart beating too fast to be comfortable.
“I am sorry. I didn’t-”
“It’s nothing-”
“Get anything half this nice. But-” She stopped. Reinhardt was reaching under the table. He pulled out a giant bag- the size of her goddamn torso- and offered it to her.
She pulled it open, trying not to let her hands shake.
“Oh-”
It was a teddy bear.
A giant teddy bear. With a shirt. That said “I love you more than I can bear”
Ana looked up in wonder at Reinhardt, who was, bless his heart, blushing.
“Ana, I-”
Ana hugged the bag and schooled her expression into something serious.
“Reinhardt. Pick me up from my quarters at 1900. Wear something nice.”
Reinhardt blinked, and then he broke into a grin.
“Yes! Of course! I will be right on time.”
Ana grinned at him, mind blanking, and then practically sprinted from the room.
Maybe valentine’s day was good for something after all.
hiiiiii @nevaryadl, I got u for the @r76valentines here’s your fluffy ass valentines day date and I hope it meets your expectations
It turned out that the question “who-do-I-have-to-kill-to-get-a-free-weekend-with-my-husband” had a lot of answers. About 246 answers, and enough wounds on the bodies that Reyes got a strongly worded letter and put on leave while the UN investigated whether or not that warranted an “excessive use of force”.
It had, and honestly, this wasn’t the worst possible reason he’d been able to take a day off (that dubious honor belonged to any number of sick days in the SEP that he’d spent nearly dying.) And it had come right around Valentine’s day, so Gabriel was satisfied counting that mission a success on all counts.
Jack was less inclined to agree, since his husband with too much free time tended to be...a bit needy.
“Get off of my desk Gabe.”
Reyes stretched even further, dislodging another stack of papers that fluttered to the ground.
“Only if you ask nicely.”
“Get the fuck off of my desk, dear.”
Gabe tapped his lip contemplatively, and gave Jack one of his signature heart-stopping grins. Even after all these years, it still made Jack’s cheeks flush.
“How about you make me.”
Jack had worked under Gabe’s tactics. The only way to combat them was to act quickly and with overwhelming force.
He shoved him off the desk.
__
After Jack had managed to stop laughing at the distressed cat noise Gabriel made as he hit the ground, he caved and went to go help him up.
Always his first mistake.
Gabriel tripped him, pulling him down with him so they were both sprawled across the paper-covered floor. Jack couldn’t help laughing despite himself, letting Gabe’s arms sneak around him to pull him against his chest.
“You are a child.”
Gabe leaned in for a quick kiss that turned into a much longer one. His husband’s hands were starting to wander when Jack finally managed to come up for air.
“I have WORK to do.”
A 40 year old black ops commander should not have a puppy look that effective, and Jack barely managed to untangle himself.
“C’mon, It’s Valentines day!”
Jack was uninpressed.
“Haven't I heard 15 years worth of lectures from you about this holiday being a cheap cash grab?”
“It’s a romantic cheap cash grab!”
Jack put his hands on his hips.
“Alright. I’ll bite. If it means that much to you we can go out tonight. BUT-” He lifted a hand as Gabriel’s face lit up like a kid on christmas.
“I need to get all this paperwork out of the way. So if you want a full evening you’d better sit down and help me.”
_________
It took three hours, but by the end of it Jack had to admit that Gabriel had been serious about taking him out for Valentines day. The papers had been filled out with more precision than anything Jack had seen Gabriel manage since the SEP. He’s stayed quiet and worked, only brushing Jack’s cheek with his fingers when he hit a page that needed signing.
It was incredibly sweet, and it was the only reason Jack didn’t get right back in the car when he realized that Gabe had driven them to Blizzard World.
He tried to find the words to express his concerns- lord, he had so many concerns- but when he turned to Gabriel he found his husband’s face positively lit up with genuine excitement.
He sighed.
“I love you so much.”
Gabriel either didn’t hear or chose to ignore the strain in his tone, and leapt out of the car.
“Lets see if we can get into crappy t-shirts and hats before anyone recognizes us!”
______
Jack wasn’t sure that a “Hellscream” ball-cap and a “Wizard’s Sanctum Magic Show” T-shirt counted as a real disguise, but they hadn’t been mobbed immediately so he decided to just count it as a win. And even more importantly- Gabe was happy. Really happy. They’d been wandering around for hours, holding hands and laughing at theme park rides. Jack wasn’t sure they’d ever even been on a date like this before- certainly never to an amusement park.
Actually, Jack had never been to an amusement park at all, a fact he immediately regretted mentioning as he was hauled into the line for Blackrock mountain.
Gabe was never going to let him forget screaming on the first drop, but they both rode it three more times before finally moving on.
They even rode the 20 second “flight to duskwood” after a 45 minute wait that had Jack pulling Gabriel away from his attempts to go warn people in the line what they were in for. All in all, the hours passed in a blur of colors, laughter, and warmth, and Jack was surprised to find he was actually disappointed when the voice came over the loudspeaker announcing that the park was closing soon.
They’d saved the Ferris wheel for last, and managed to get on before things started to close. Jack was utterly content, looking over the view with Gabe a solid warmth against his side. The lights of the park were a field of stars in the dark, and Gabe squeezed Jack’s hand without taking his eyes off of them.
“I wish we could do this all the time.” Jack heard himself saying. Gabriel looked up in surprise, then grinned.
“Who’s to say we can’t?”
Jack snorted, though it sounded a bit more bitter than he meant it to.
“Our jobs.”
Gabriel leaned forward, snagging his fingers in Jack’s hair and pulling him forward into a deep kiss. Their arms went around each other, and Gabriel’s eyes were alight when they both came up for air.
“You’re the boss. It’s your rules.”
“But-”
Gabriel ran his thumb across Jack’s cheek and smiled.
“I know. But- maybe we can make a little time. Call it a team building exercise. You bring your kids I’ll bring mine.”
Jack rolled his eyes, thinking of the trouble Lena and McCree could get up to.
“You know we’d have to take Ana and Rein or they’d never forgive us.”
Gabriel pressed his forehead to his husband’s, running his thumb through the stubble of Jack’s scalp.
“They’d love it. Just make the call. The world can go without you for a day.”
The voice of the UN in Jack’s mind was saying no. Reason and paperwork said no. But Jack- Jack wanted to say yes. And his husband’s hands were warm on his cheeks, so he followed his heart for once.
