“You’ve got Check on Jersey Day every once in a while, yeah? Why’s there no Check on the Tweedles Day? Y’trust us more or summat, Miss White?”
"I have no regrets."
They all had to make tough calls through their long existence - some harder than others - but sometimes...Some need to keep telling themselves that they don't regret, even through it might be a lie. Don't they say that if you repeat it many times, it might become the truth? However, Bigby couldn't read if Snow was among those who truly didn't regret or was trying to convince herself.
“ Have you kept practicing that?”Today wasn't one of such occasions, through." You had just eaten that entire chocolate bar by yourself. I'm sure you regret nothing."
Wake up. Roll out of bed. Make coffee. Wash leftovers from last night down with said coffee. Shower. Get dressed. More coffee. More coffee. Brush teeth. Grab keys. Leave for work.
Wake up late. Throw self out of bed. Make coffee. Shower. Forget about coffee. Make more coffee. Burn self with coffee. Swear. Drop cup. Swear more. Clean up mess. Brush teeth. Get half dressed. Leave, still pulling on clothes. Slip on ice. Lie on sidewalk.
A quiet, pained groan escaped the pawnbroker as he faced the grey sky above, the icy concrete below chilling him to the now bruised bone. There were only a few things that could make this worse, he thought, dragging himself to his feet once again. He carefully inched towards his car, shoving a hand into his pocket to grasp at nothing. Jersey frowned, checking his other pocket with similar results. He was right. There were only a few things that could make this worse. This was one of them.
“Oh for fuck’s sake,” he growled, turning back around to get his keys from inside. Only a step further and he stopped in his tracks. If he didn’t have his car keys, he didn’t have his house keys. This all just kept getting better and better. The thought of breaking into his own home crossed his mind, but he was already late for opening shop. He needed to get there - car or not. Lips pursing to the side, Jersey spun on his heel, nearly falling again, and began the trek across the Bronx for the Lucky Pawn. He could use a good walk, he told himself. A walk in the cold and the snow was still a walk. An unenjoyable walk, but one nonetheless.
The entire trip was repeated assurances about needing a walk mixed in with hissed curses and entirely too many ice coated sidewalks for Jersey’s liking. He managed not to fall again, but he had punched a fellow pedestrian in the face while trying to regain his balance after slipping. Jersey wasn’t sure which of the two was better. Unfortunately, he didn’t have much time to debate after arriving, as he quickly realised he wasn’t getting into the pawn shop. Of course not. All the keys were together just like they always were. If he lacked one, all were missing.
“Should’a just fuckin’ broken in, Jersey,” he sighed, setting his back to the shop’s door, sliding down it to sit on the sidewalk. “Should’a broken in…” On the ground for the second time that morning, headache blossoming, a plan popped into his head. A stupid plan, yes, but he was cold and ready to go back to bed. No plan he came up with was going to be much better.
However, moments later as he looked at the broken window of the pawn shop, the glass still stuck in the door splattered with blood and his sliced arm soaking a second wrap through, Jersey honestly wondered if maybe he should just go home.
