FairBlocker Update

via twitter the FairBlocker people got ahold of me and clarified some of the points brought up in the reddit thread I linked to.

1. The $500 Barrier for Contact was a typo. The initial Revenue Barrier (at the time FairBlocker launched) was $100 before they would reach out to the website owner. 2. They have plans in place to LOWER that barrier to $50 for small, independent websites so that the people who need it the most, but who are unaware of the addon/extension can get the ad revenue they so desperately need.

It’s looking more and more like these guys genuinely want to make the Net a safer, less annoying and fair place.

If you own your own website, go check these guys out. If you use AdBlock or AdBlock Plus, check these guys out.

This is kind of a signal boost post: FairBlocker does require you, the site owner, to go “claim” your revenue. Artists, crafters... go check them out and claim your shit. 

Here’s the pitch they have:  The only ad blocker that replaces lost revenue by letting users directly support websites, lowering the internet’s reliance on advertising.

Pretty much the only thing I don’t like is that it’s up to the website owner to go to FairBlocker and file a claim to receive their revenue.

We hold the site earnings in escrow for the websites to come and claim (and have already built the site ownership verification that you mentioned). Once the site has been claimed, we pay out on a monthly basis.

I haven't installed it yet simply because I am not in a secure enough position to handle ANY (I don’t even have netflix/amazon) sort of subscription service, but it seems like a damn good idea. 

Especially for the smaller personal sites like if your are a crafter or an artist. This way you wont lose the revenue from ads that can help pay for hosting.
