Day 5. Gerald Anderson "Jerry" Lawson was an African-American electronic engineer that created the first home video game system, Fairchild Channel F, with interchangeable game cartridges in 1976. Lawson also founded and ran Videosoft, a video game development company. Videosoft would make the software for the Atari 2600 in the early 1980s. Last on for tonight -- I'm unsure if many gamers have seen the #FairchildChannelF it's a #1976 (that's the spirit!) #videogame home console. My favorite thing about the ChsnnelF is that the first series of game cartridges were just numbers. Obviously, I love the game! Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to interview Jerry Lawson for #WeTalkGames before he passed. I only recently put two and two together (not the Channel F game 2) and realized why it was most likely called Channel F. In the 1968, Ralph Baer (who I fortunately did get to interview) almost had his ChannelG project given the green light. ChannelG stood for Channel Game. It was a channel because you'd actually be able to play a video game on your television on-demand via your cable company. This was in '68!!! So, I extrapolated that Channel F most likely stood for Fun. That might be completely false however, it is my conjecture. (at Sloppy Joe's Bar)
