Does this Feel Real? Chapter 12: Arms for the Inkin’
Here’s Chapter 12 to Does This Feel Real?
This chapter introduces a very important character and maybe the final person to a love triangle? Who knows!
The answer is yes.
Fairy groaned as he slowly opened his eyes. The light from the hallway seeped into the room. It was just enough to keep the irritated clone from sleeping. Well, no use trying. Fairy groggily sat up on the bed, wincing at the pain that rushed to his head. His brain violently pulsed against his skull, causing immense agony. Great, something else to hate about morning. Massaging his temples, the copy scrunched his eyebrows together.
“Morning.” Fairy flinched at the dramatically loud sound. Stretching his arms in the air, he opened his eyes and searched the room for the source of the voice. In the chair facing him, Mark sat with a friendly smile. Fairy just grumbled in response. “Don’t like mornings?” Fairy slightly shook his head, careful not to move too quickly.
“My head hurts,” Fairy stated, his drowsy eyes only half open. He narrowed his eyes as a warning when he heard the other man laugh.
“Well of course it does. That’s usually what happens after drinking too much. I’m just surprised you-” Mark was quieted by Fairy’s intimidating glare.
“You’re too loud,” he whined while pointing to his forehead.
“Oh, oh right. Sorry,” Mark whispered as he stood up and made his way to the other. “Do you need help up?”
Fairy shook his head again with caution and pushed himself up. He lost his balance but was caught by Mark. Leaning against the original, he stood still in an attempt to recover before he was able to support himself.
Got it? There you go.” Fairy rubbed his eyes as Mark muttered reassuring words. Just as his headache started to ease off, the door swung open and crashed against the wall. He winced in pain and glared at the person who dared get in his way during this time of day. There before him was a clone covered in tattoos and piercings: Punk.
“Ther’ ya are. I got worrin’ ‘bout ya when I didn’ see ya come home. I stayed up all night waitin’ an’ I feel asleep. I thought that he did somethin’ to ya. Man, he’s lucky I found ya before I found ‘im. I woulda-” Too loud. Rage burning in his eyes, Fairy brought his finger to Punk’s lips and silenced him. “Wassit somethin’ I said?” Punk asked through the finger over his mouth. Fairy watched as he turned his head to face Mark who just shrugged in response. “Was the matter Sparkles?”
“What’s the matter? What’s the matter? Oh, I’ll tell you what’s the matter. For one, you’re not supposed to be in here Punk. You know that.”
“Yeah, but I was worried ‘bout ya and I-”
“Don’t interrupt me,” Fairy demanded, his voice rising in volume.
“Well I’m sorry I-”
“Two, I literally just woke up. I don’t like waking up. Three, I have a fucking hangover. Four, I have a hangover because of something I wanted to forget. But guess what? I still remember it, so it was all for nothing. Five, I have to do something I really don’t want to do today. So, Punk, please explain why I shouldn’t be fucking upset about this shitty situation. Because I would really like to know.” At this point, Fairy had backed Punk up against the wall and repeatedly poked his chest. He made the other raise his hands up defensively.
“Not a mornin’ person, eh?” Punk asked, facing Mark again for confirmation. Big mistake. Fairy clenched his fists and bit his lip to keep the rage inside. He spun around and marched out of the room, Punk following close behind. The clone in the dress closed his eyes as he felt Punk grab his hands. “Aw, come on, don’t be like that man. I’m sorry I-” Punk was interrupted by a fist to the face, causing him to stumble to the ground. Fairy breathed heavily with his hand triumphantly in the air.
“Don’t, touch, me.” After speaking those words, Fairy walked away from the stunned man. I’m surrounded by fucking idiots, all of them. I can’t believe I’m stuck with these morons. Why am I even still here? The sound of a familiar voice answered his question.
“No, no, you don’t understand… Yes, yes I know… No, I don’t-… Now you listen here.” Curiosity taking over, Fairy pressed his ear against the closed door. “I don’t care about him… Yes I know I’m protective that’s because-…. Yes, yes exactly. It’s the only way. If something happened to him beforehand, it would ruin everything… Yes, I know but-…. Alright…. That would be best… Mhm… Goodbye.”
“Whatch ya’ doin’ sparkles?” Fairy instinctively grabbed the body that spoke behind him and covered the man’s mouth, returning his head back against the door.
“Why does everyone think that? Damn it, I don’t. Maybe I should make it more clear? No, no, he needs to have hope that I do. Fuck it, it doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks. All that does matter is that everything goes according to plan. But the plan is to not get attached to him. Well, it’s not like I will anyways. You know it will mess everything up if you do. Which is exactly why I won’t. You’ll have to be more careful, he’s been more defiant lately. I know, I know. I’ll have to take it a step further it seems. But, is it really necessary? Well, in any case it doesn’t matter. It’ll just be, uh, just be a joke. Yeah, a joke. Hopefully no one will have to see anyways. I’ll have to do it in the most opportune moment. Maybe I should just create it instead. Yeah, yeah, that could work. Alright now to plan this out.”
“Who’s he talkin’ about?” Punk asked as Fairy finally let go.
“I- I don’t know,” Fairy answered, his eyes wide in thought. But I have a fairly good idea. He sat on the ground with his head hung. Punk glared at him from behind, not knowing what to say.
“Well, it don’t matter anyway.” Fairy looked up at the other to find an extended hand reached out towards him. He shook his head and pushed himself up before fixing the fluff on his dress.
“Why’s that?” Fairy asked in return, bringing his gaze up to meet the other’s.
“I mean, why should we worry ‘bout his plan? Why should we be part of it?” Punk questioned, his hands grabbing Fairy’s shoulder in an attempt to make their eyes meet.
“Because, I don’t want anyone else to hurt,” Fairy explained as he brushed the other’s hands away. He avoided Punk’s serious eyes and brought his hand to his own arm, hugging it tightly.
“How’s that?”
“I’m very important to this plan. I’m afraid that if I don’t play my part, someone else will.”
“Was that?”
“Well, I’m not completely sure but-” Fairy jumped as he heard the door behind him creak open. He spun around to face the man before him. Wilford stared back in shock and fear, but quickly shook his head to clear his face of all emotion. What was he so afraid of?
“Oh, uh, Sparkles. What are you doing here?” Fairy raised an eyebrow Wilford’s question, noticing the man ever-so-slightly inch across the wall away from him.
“What? Is there a reason I can’t be here?” Fairy asked, his rage returning as he stepped towards the other.
“No, no, no, no reason at all! Just, uh, curious is all.” Wilford threw his hands up in the air defensively as he leaned back against the wall. He was trapped, and Fairy very much enjoyed that fact.
“Really? You weren’t talking about me were you?” The flamboyant clone inched closer, his eyes glaring into Wilford’s with suspicion. They were too close for his liking apparently, because he cowered down slightly and turned his head. Fairy leaned forward with a questioning expression.
“No.” Wilford paused while he narrowed his eyes in suspicion. “Why would you think I was?” Fairy took a step back in realization. Whops. He forced a gulp as he witnessed the asshole straighten up and advance towards him with his head cocked. “Were you eavesdropping? Fairy dear, you know I don’t appreciate that.” Now it was Fairy backed up against the wall. Wilford placed a hand beside the other clone and leaned closer with a smirk clinging onto his face.
“I-I-I-”
“Nah, don’ be so full of yourself man. He was with me the whole time,” Punk defended as he shoved Wilford away and wrapped his arm around Fairy. “Ain’t that right?”
“Uh, yeah, totally.” Wilford kept his unconvinced eyes on Fairy until he finally threw his hands up in defeat.
“Fine, fine. I needed to talk to you anyways. Fairy,” Wilford called as he nodded down the hall. Fairy reluctantly followed before he worded ‘thank you’ to Punk who smiled in return. The tattooed man let out a sad sigh as he put his hands in his pockets and kicked the ground before sulking in the opposite direction. Fairy couldn’t help but feel a little guilty for leaving him like that, but with Wilford leading him away, he couldn’t really do anything. When he made sure they were alone, the mustached man abruptly stopped and slammed Fairy against the wall. It didn’t hurt, but it was enough to knock the air out of him.
“W-w-what do you want, Wilford?” Fairy asked after he managed to catch his breath. He was so confused. The position they were in made him wildly blush. But the smirk on the other’s face made him want to punch it right off. Wilford made it even worse as he leaned in closer. So long for breathing.
“An explanation. I know that you took Mark out even though I specifically told you not to. I want to know why,” Wilford demanded, his breath heating up Fairy’s forehead. He spoke in a soft but stern voice.
“O-o-oh, I-”
“You know I can’t have you disobeying my orders without a punishment. Otherwise, you’ll never learn your lesson.” He inched closer. That can’t be good.
“I-I-I’m sorry, I-I-”
“Words, Fairy. Use them,” Wilford whispered. Fairy closed his eyes and turned to try to calm his nerves, but he was pulled back to face him. “Eyes, Fairy.” Fairy did as he was told and hesitantly opened his eyes to find Wilford mere inches away from him. He couldn’t help but focus on his lips that formed a sly smirk. He’s just fucking with you again. Don’t let him get that satisfaction. With that in mind, Fairy pushed Wilford away with a pout and his arms crossed. The other clone was obviously distraught that his advancements were turned away.
“I was just going to say that you didn’t tell me that I couldn’t leave with him. You just said not to let him leave, and I didn’t.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t realize you were a smartass. Fine, I guess I’ll have to be more explicit from now on.” Wilford looked almost, relieved? No, that couldn’t be it. Could it? He swiftly turned around with his hands behind his head. He started to walk off before he suddenly stopped. “Oh, and one more thing.” He paused before saying, “stay away from Punk. He’s a bad influence.” Was that, jealousy in his voice?
“But I-”
“No buts, dear. You either listen to me or him. It’s your choice. I know you’ll choose the right one.” With a wave of his hand he turned out of the hall leaving Fairy in bewilderment. What just happened?

Fairy sat at the bar and made smalltalk with the bartender. He’d been there before, so he knew everyone quitewell. But, it usually wasn’t a good thing when he ordered a drink. He usually came here to think things over. Holding a fabricated smile, Fairy glanced around as the other man left. Doing a double take, he found Wilford sadly gazing into his empty glass. Not knowing what to do, Fairy held his hand up to cover his face so he wouldn’t be recognized. What should I do?
Finally building the courage to confront Wilford, Fairy quickly finished the rest of his drink and sheepishly walked over to the depressed man. Standing there without any sign of recognition, he forced a cough and grinned as the other lifted his head to search for the source of the noise. Not taking notice at first, Wilford turned his attention back to the glass before snapping his head towards Fairy again. He jumped out of his seat, replacing the grief on his face into apathy.
“What are you doing here?” Wilford snapped. Fairy slightly leaned back at the man’s harsh tone.
“I could ask you the same thing.” He watched as the man in the suspenders crossed his arms in irritation, scoffing and sticking his nose up in the air.
“I asked you first,” Wilford demanded. The flamboyant clone rolled his eyes and sighed.
“Fine, if you must know, I come here when I need to think.” Fairy observed Wilford unfold his arms and raise an eyebrow in curiosity.
“Think about what?” Fairy’s face turned red at the question and he struggled to form words.
“W-w-well, y-y-you know, little things like feelings and stuff. You wouldn’t understand that though.” Wilford looked unconvinced and suspicious so Fairy quickly tried to change the subject. “Alright, I’ve answered your question, now answer mine.” This time, it was the other man that became flustered.
“I, uh, well, can’t, can’t a guy just get a drink around here?” No, he couldn’t have been.
“W-w-were you stood up?” Fairy asked. The way Wilford hung his head and scowled told him the answer. Turning his head away from the other, he played with his bottom lip in thought. “You know, I’m here alone too. I-I-If you wanted to,” he trailed off in embarrassment. In the corner of his eye, he made out the hat-obsessed clone perk up and smirk with his arms folded again.
“Are you asking me out?” Fairy’s head shot up at Wilford’s question as he desperately flailed his arms around.
“N-n-no, I-I-I mean if you want to that is. I m-m-m-mean at least you won’t be alone. I w-w-was just thinking that-” Fairy was interrupted by Wilford’s chuckle. He tilted his head in confusion as the other ruffled his hair. The mustached clone signaled for him to follow, so that’s what he did. They paid for their drinks and walked out of the bar. Fairy raised his eyebrows in puzzlement as Wilford slid his hands in his pockets and walked down the road. Following close behind, the man in the dress looked down the other direction. “Isn’t home that way?” Wilford just shrugged and continued the way he was going.
“It’s more exciting this way,” he replied before glancing behind him to make sure the other was following.
“Uh, okay,” Fairy muttered as he shook his head and trailed behind Wilford. They walked down the road for a while in total silence. The girly clone tried to speak several times, but could never muster the nerve to do so. Instead, he observed his surroundings. The beautiful city lights reflected in his eyes, wonder shining behind them. He had never been to this part of the city before. Regretting that fact, Fairy glanced over at Wilford and noticed his focused expression. Turning his attention back to his surroundings, he read all the words that flashed on screens with amazement.
They finally reached the end of the city and continued down the path. It eventually led them to a grassy area with fireflies flickering around them. Wilford stopped on a bridge and folded his arms over the railing. He leaned forward and gazed out into the horizon. Following his lead, Fairy stood beside him and admired the calm river water that sparkled from the stars in the sky. They were silent there for a while until Fairy couldn’t take it anymore. His eyes drifted to the man before him.
“So, uh, do you come here often?” Fairy asked. He cocked his head in confusion as Wilford shook his head.
“Never been here,” he replied before he rested his head on his arms. How was that possible? It seemed like he knew exactly where he was going. Silence again.
“Uh, who were you going to see?” Fairy regretted that question as soon as he said it. He turned his head away and scolded himself in annoyance.
“It doesn’t really matter.” Fairy snapped his head back when he heard Wilford let out a heavy sigh. “Not like she would have stayed anyways. They never do.”
“Well, maybe that’s because you never take anyone or anything seriously. Maybe if you were more committed then things would be different.” Wilford just shrugged in response as he kept his gaze fixed in front of him.
“You still love me.” Fairy’s eyes widened as he looked at Wilford before quickly turning away when their eyes met. He placed his hands over his cheeks to hide his blush. “Why do you?” Fairy faced the other and searched his eyes for an explanation. His eyes were filled with sorrow and pain.
“Well-” Wait, why do I love him? Fairy panicked when he heard Wilford sigh again in frustration. “You’re really dedicated.” The man with the mustache forced a sad chuckle. Fairy bit his lip in irritation. “I guess I’ve never really thought about it.”
“It’s because I trained you to love me,” Wilford declared.
“I-”
“That’s the only way someone could love me.” Fairy didn’t know what to say. He couldn’t argue with that because he had no clue if it was true or not. He didn’t know why he felt affection for Wilford. All he knew was that he did.
“Look, I know that you think that you influence everything about me, but I’m still my own person. You can’t force feelings on anyone. I don’t understand why I feel the way I do, but I know that I do love you and that it’s my own decision to.” Fairy’s words were soon drowned in the silence. He glanced at Wilford to find him slightly nodding his head while he carried a thoughtful expression.
“I think I understand, not being able to control your emotions I mean. Even if you fight against it or deny it-” Wilford paused as he turned his head and gazed into the other’s eyes. “You still develop feelings for someone.” Fairy hastily glanced away at his words and pulled the hair out of his own face. They stood in silence for a while, just staring up at the twinkling stars that decorated the dark blue sky.
Suddenly, Wilford spun around at returned down the way they came. With his head tilted in confusion, Fairy quickly caught up to him and walked directly by his side. Keeping his gaze on Wilford, he watched as the man stretched his arms and placed his hands on his own neck with his elbows in the air. As they returned to the city, Fairy noticed the other pay significantly more attention to the passing stores and people than he did before. He stopped dead in his tracks while the other clone looked over at him in worry. Wilford walked into a shop with excitement, practically drooling at the sight before him. Hats.
“I’ve never seen so many hats in my life!” Wilford exclaimed as he spun around, attempting to take everything in. Giggling while he entered, Fairy watched as Wilford fell to his knees. “Look at all of them!” Placing a hand on the other’s shoulder, the girly clone helped him up. This man was like a child in a toy store, his eyes large with admiration. Fairy, on the other hand, played the role of the mother. He stood there as the other darted around in fascination and rolled his eyes. “I think this one’ll look good on you.” Fairy flinched as he felt something placed in his head from behind. He spun around to face Wilford, accidently ending up only inches away from his lips. He stared at the small smirk on the other’s face. Shaking his head in denial, Fairy carefully placed the hat back where it belonged.
“Alright, come on Wilford,” Fairy ordered as he made his way to the door.
“Aw, do we have to go?” Wilford whined teasingly as he followed the other out.
“Yes, otherwise you’ll just buy everything in stock.” Fairy let out a giggle which caused Wilford to softly chuckle.
“You know, your laugh is kind of cute.” Fairy looked at Wilford who was rubbing his neck and faintly blushing.
“I thought you said that-”
“Nah, I only hate it because it makes me too nice. It’s, contagious,” he explained as they walked through the city once again. Fairy smiled as his face turned a dark red. Looking away, he brushed the hair in his face behind his ear. As he brought his hand back down, he flinched as he felt someone grab it. He turned back to Wilford and noticed that their hands were intertwined. The manipulative clone kept his head turned away, probably from embarrassment. Fairy closed the distance between them and walked with their arms touching the other’s. Every once and a while, Fairy would swing his arm and cause Wilford to softly chuckle. When they finally reached home, they stepped inside as Wilford stifled a yawn and stretched.
“I’m going to bed,” he claimed drowsily. Fairy simply nodded in understanding and walked towards the living room. He was caught off guard as he felt a pair of lips press against his cheek. He glanced over at Wilford and smiled at his smirk. “Good night Sparkles,” he called while shaking a hand in the air and making his way to his room.
“Good night Wilford.” Fairy raised his hand to his cheek in doubt of what just happened. He closed his eyes and grinned in content. After Wilford disappeared from his line of sight, he whispered, “I love you.”
Fairy twitched in his sleep. He whined as the sun's rayswarmed his face. He buried his head deeper into Wilford to shield his eyes. He smiled and continued to sleep in the small ball his body made.
Wilford jumped awake at the quiet whine, looking down at Fairy. He looked away disinterestedly before doing a double take. It was morning. Morning. And Fairy was right there. He stayed as still as possible and looked around praying for escape
Slightly moaning at the other man's sudden movements, Fairy nuzzled the body next to him and lazily rested his arm on Wilford's stomach. It was strange to have someone next to him, but it made his grin widen at the warmth next to him.
Maybe he could just go back to sleep and nothing bad would happen...
"Please. Please, don't leave me," Fairy mumbled in his sleep, his face now carried a sad frown. He gripped Wilford's shirt and softly whimpered as he brought himself even closer to the man next to him.
Slowly, carefully, Wilford wrapped his free arm around Fairy and just as gently pulled him closer.
Fairy sleepily forced one eye half open and slowly ran a hand through his hair. His gaze turned to the man beside him before he closed his eyes again and left his hand resting on the top of his head. Wait a second. Was that- Fairy was too tired to confirm or deny the question that he asked. Maybe he could go back to sleep. At least in sleep his life wasn't complete shit. In dreams he was actually happy. Hey, imagine that, a place that didn't make Fairy feel dead inside. Who would have thought? Mornings were the worst, because, well it was his wake up call to reality: both literally and figuratively.
Freezing at the movement, he hoped his heart wasn't pounding hard enough to be felt.
Growing uncomfortable, Fairy rested his head on Wilford's chest. Unfortunately, he placed it directly over his heart. He felt and listened to the fast drumming of the other's vital organ and groaned in annoyance. It wasn't like it wasn't enjoyable or nice, but all Fairy wanted to do right now was sleep and the man next to him was preventing that from happening.
Wilford stiffened at the groan. "I'm so sorry" He whispered in the quietest possible voice
Are you kidding me? Fairy sleepily rose his hand to Wilford's mouth and rested a finger on his lips in an attempt to hush him. He was too lazy to even move his finger after that.
Wilford was completely and utterly terrified. He was fairly certain his heart stopped at that point.
In his morning haze, Fairy moaned again and brought the finger to his own mouth. He attempted to shush the beating heart before tiredly dropping his arm across Wilford's stomach.
He didn't even want to breathe out of fear for his life, but of course he had to. He laid perfectly still and focused on breathing as slowly as possible to avoid certain death.
Fairy slowly opened his eyes as he began to wake. Well, wake up enough to think anyways. He dragged his hand in front of his face as he glared at it. Without moving, he grumbled in annoyance. He finally stopped moving his hand and gently gripped Wilford's shirt. He blinked several times in the silence before he said, "Wilford?"
"Y-yes Fairy??" He squeaked out
"What are you going to do? After everything I mean. What are your plans after this one?"
"W-well..." He thought for a moment. "I honestly don't know."
Fairy glanced up and stared into Wilford's eyes. He was still half asleep and showed no emotion whatsoever, but he was genuinely shocked by that answer. "Well, what would you do? What would your next plan be?" His voice didn't show it, but the man was quite terrified of the answer.
I wouldn't have to put with all these morons anymore. "Probably go off on my own. I'd have no reason to stay unless Mark turns this around somehow."
"Oh, yeah." He knew that was the answer, but he was afraid of it. His gloomy aura around him was more than it would have been given the time of day it was. It was almost like he had his own rain cloud over his head and it was big enough to loom over Wilford as well.
Thankful that he was somehow still alive, Wilford hesitantly wrapped his arms around Fairy in an attempt to lengthen his lifespan some more
"You, sure you want to go all alone? I mean, that would get awfully lonely, wouldn't it?" He started to rub his own eyes in his drowsiness. Lonely for me anyways.
"Nah, I don't need anyone." Lies...
“Oh really? What happened about that talk about wanting to be adored? What happened to your fear of being alone? Were those lies Wilford? Did I go this whole time thinking that you had finally opened up to me? Was that time just part of this sick game that you play?" Fairy's flat morning voice started to increase in volume with every question asked. He was genuinely mad that Wilford was lying, especially when he understand the position he was in.
Whelp... "No, no you're right, sorry!" He rushed to calm the other down.
"Oh, you're sorry? Well, I guess that makes everything okay, doesn't it? Oh yeah, I'll have to use that one. Sorry I let Mark free. It was an honest mistake, really. Oh yeah, sorry about the time I ignored your orders. I feel really bad about it now. All's forgiven right?" Fairy was starting to fume in his morning rage. He let Wilford know that by tightening his grip on the other's shirt as much as he could.
"Ok ok, I see, I understand. What can I do to make up for it??"
"Make up, make up for it? You're kidding right? Why do you think you could just do something for me to 'make up' for every lie you've ever told me? I'm not some ignorant idiot you know! I have a brain, believe it or not! I know sometimes I may not use it correctly especially because of you, but it's still there. You know, for once in my god damn life I think I'll use it now." Fairy slowly sat up, his eyes half open both in tiredness and anger. He glared into Wilford's soul and lifted his fist in the air. If it wasn't the morning, his eyes would surely be full of the fire they were usually filled with.
Wilford shrieked and rolled off the bed and onto the floor with a thud. "Fairy, Fairy calm down okay?!"
“C-c-calm, down? You want me to calm down? Tell me why I should. Why should I calm down?"
Wilford crawled around to the opposite side of the bed away from Fairy. "Because it's not good for your health??"
"I don't really think you are that worried about my health. Assholes don't usually think about other's. And we both know how much of a dick you really are," Fairy stated as he narrowed his eyes even more. He crawled towards Wilford with a scowl on his face.
NOPE. Wilf scrambled away from Fairy. "Ok ok you got me my lifespan is shortening by the minute and I don't like it ok?!"
"Well, that makes one of us," Fairy mumbled as he reached the end of the bed and climbed off, blocking the only exit.
Alarms were blaring in his head as he backed up against the wall, his only hope being that maybe he could crawl over the bed and out the other way
"I can stand here all day, Wilford. It's your move. You can either accept your fate, or you can just prolong the end. It's your choice," Fairy growled as he swiftly sat with his legs and arms crossed, right in front of the door. His gaze never left Wilford for a second, he didn't even blink.
It’s just a punch, how bad can it be? Pretty bad. "I can too y’know! Have fun sitting there! "
“Alright, I will. I don't think you realize how determined of a person I really am, Wilford. Or have do you remember all that time I wasted just for you? I guess my time wasted is better for you right? Well, this time, I have nothing to lose, and you have everything to lose. Tick tock, Wilford. Your time is running out. There's only so much you can't do before your precious plan falls to pieces." Fairy squinted at the man in concentration. It was satisfying to see the other cower in fear.
His eyes widened. The plan. aka his baby. He reluctantly scooted forward a bit. "Fine. But I'm not going over there."
"And how exactly do you plan on leaving?" Fairy darkly chuckled and opened his eyes, ready for the challenge stepping in front of him.
"All you want is a few punches, right? Go ahead then"
He couldn't help but deeply laugh at his words. "Oh, come on Wilford. Surely you know me better than that." He threateningly cracked his knuckles and neck all at once.
"Haha...." He laughed nervously and scooted back a bit. "What uhhhh, what did you have in mind...?"
"I'd much rather watch you struggle internally. Huh, I wonder how I could do that. Any suggestions?"
"Ah... Nothing comes to mind! Whoops!"
"Hm, then am I to assume that there aren't any objections?"
He didn't have much choice, really. There was no talking Fairy out of anything once he was in his moods.
"You know, I'm going to have to sit here and think about this for a while. I want to find the most excruciatingly painful thing I can. Hm, maybe I could make it painful for you to even think about having sex. No, no, you'd definitely do it regardless. What if, I tell Dark all your little secrets? No, you'd just deny them. Hm, what to do, what to do."
Fairy was right about all of those things. He grinned for a moment before he realized what that meant. Fairy really was gonna do something horrible.
“Oh, I know." Fairy smirked as he spoke and returned his eyes to Wilford. His expression was simply and utterly entertaining.
He shook his head to clear his thoughts, looking back at Fairy with what he hoped were indifferent eyes. "What?"
"You know, I think it would be better not to tell you. I want to see the terror in your eyes." His laughs slowly turned into his more famous and cheery giggles.
"Uh, you... you sure you don't wanna tell me?"
"Yeah," he covered his mouth to try to silence his giggles, but failed miserably. His eyes were fully open again and were slowly filling up with life. "It's much more fun for you to guess."
"Well, since you have no proof that you've found something horrible to do to me, I guess I have no reason to worry~" He grinned and stood up
"Oh, you have plenty to worry about. Don't forget, I know you better than you know yourself. This will just take longer than you might think." Fairy really did have a plan, but he didn't want to use it until the moment was absolutely opportune. That, and, well, he was starting to wake up. He failed to keep a serious face and giggled uncontrollably.
He rolled his eyes, walking up to the door. "Scoot."
Without dropping his broad smile, Fairy violently shook his head and further backed himself against the door in defiance. He giggled at Wilford's frustrated sigh. "Make me."
Huffing, he crossed his arms. "I'll give you a kiss if you move~"
Fairy froze in place and blushed, his cheeks rosier than usual this morning. "Y-y-yeah right. You've used that one on me before. It's gonna take more than that to move me."
He pulled his best bedroom eyes and the sexiest voice he could manage. "With tongue~"
Fairy stared out past the other before shaking his head again in denial. "I-I-I know you better than that Wilford. T-t-there's nothing you can do to convince me." Fairy was really disappointed. He usually was groggy for hours after he woke up. But this time, his head cleared up in no longer than fifteen minutes. What was this morning that changed that, or was it last night? Fairy's eyes widened as he glanced down at the floor in embarrassment.
"How about a hug?" He spread his arms out as if Fairy was looking at him.
Fairy paid no attention to the man's actions and words. Instead, he hugged his own arms and hung his head in grief.
Oh what now?? "What is it?"
He just slightly turned his head away from the man. He remembered why he was upset in the first place. And he hated it.
"If you don’t tell me then I can't do anything about it."
"It's not like you'd do anything anyways," Fairy muttered without making eye contact.
He rolled his eyes again. "I did last night didn’t I?"
At that, Fairy quickly stood up and glared Wilford in the eyes. He had avoided doing so earlier because tears filled them. It wasn't completely because of what he just said. It was last night in general.
"What'd I do now?"
Fairy said nothing. Instead, he wrapped his arms around Wilford and tightly clung to him, his head rested on the other's shoulder.
"Well.... Ok then...." He hugged Fairy back, leaning his head against the others'.
Fairy nuzzled himself against Wilford's neck and tightly clung to the back of his shirt. He tried his hardest to stay silent, so hard that his bottom lip held deep teeth marks. He really didn't want to annoy Wilford at this point, so he stayed as quiet as he could. He was thankful for last night, he really truly was. But at the same time, he knew that that was the only time that would ever happen again, and he didn't want that to end. It was like waking up from a dream, but this time, it wasn't something he could return to. He was going to have to wake up soon. And that's when the nightmare begins.
"You're ok..." he rubbed Fairy's back gently
"No, it's not fucking okay!" Fairy cried, his lip quivering as he pulled away.
"Then tell me what's wrong!"
"You, you are what's wrong okay?"
"What about me?"
"You do this to me all the time! You make me feel like shit, but then you somehow always prove to me that I can trust you. I don't know why, but I do. You only ever do it for yourself. Every single god damn time you give me false hope. I'm tired of my emotions being screwed with! You make me hate you, and then you do something that makes me like you again! It's an endless cycle, and there is no end to it! Why do you find it so amusing to do this to me? Why do you like to see me like this? Why is your fucking plan more important than the only person that gives a fuck about you?"
"Because you won't care about me forever."
"What the fuck makes you say that? You know I will, that's why you keep using me! You know that I'll just come crawling back to you, and for some god damn reason I do. What could possibly change that? You know that I'll be here no matter what you do. God damn it Wilford. Not a single word from last night registered, did it. I love you Wilford. Stop denying that I'm not going to be your fucking puppet forever. For fuck's sake Wilford, I would die for you!"
He smiled a bit and looked off to the side. "You feel that way now, but you won't later. No one ever does."
"Well, quite frankly it's because you're an asshole. You never let other's in. But I know who you really are. I've seen the side of you that no one else has, take last night for example. God damn it Wilford, you're the reason no one loves you. You're too scared to make meaningful bonds. I know you don't feel the same why I do about you. But you're lying to yourself if you say you don't care about me. You wouldn't have bothered to waste your time with me. And the only I might change my feelings towards you is if you keep doing what you have been. Even then I doubt such a thing would happen. I'm scared of having no control and hurting other people. But I always do when I'm with you. I let go of my fears for you. I mean, you're the only fucking person that I spend my whole day with. If that hasn't changed yet, after so many times of being played for a fool, then I doubt that it never will."
He was silent for quite some time. "I don't let people in because there's too much risk." He looked Fairy in the eyes again. "Why should I subject myself to something like that if I can easily prevent it? You get to be closer than the others, you're right about that. /but you aren't too close yet and I'd like to keep it that way."
Fairy turned his head away at his words. Why was he so distraught and heartbroken over those words? That's the response he would usually receive. Maybe he thought that after what happened last night, things would change. Those words hurt more than they usually did. He tried to speak, but every time he opened his mouth, no sound was made. He looked down at the ground with wide and shocked eyes. I'd like to keep it that way.
"Anything else?" He walked to the door and stopped, waiting.
"Yeah." Fairy slowly brought his gaze back to Wilford as he softly spoke the words.
"what is it? "
"L-l-last night, you said-" Fairy's voice trailed off until he had the courage to speak up again. "Y-you said you were sorry, about using me. Was- was that a lie?"
"I can feel remorse, y'know."
"Then, why are you still doing this to me?"
He shrugged. “Part of the plan.”
"How? How is this part of the plan? Don't you need me to cling to you? Why do you keep pushing me away if it risks that? I know you need me to do everything you tell me, I know that. It doesn't make any sense for you to do this to me. What happens if one time, I, for some fucking miracle, actually learn from my mistakes? Your whole fucking plan falls apart! So why do you still do it? What are you so afraid of Wilford?"
He was starting to get irritated now. “Just drop it, Fairy.”
"No! You asked! You fucking asked me what was wrong and I'm telling you! See? This is exactly what I'm talking about! You listened to what I had to say last night, but you've done it again. Big surprise! I can't fucking take this anymore! I'm not going to drop it until you stop it!" Fairy heard the irritation in the other's voice, but he didn't care. Wilford didn't care about him. He thought that, maybe, just maybe, he had at least cared enough to listen. But he was wrong. He was just being played, like always.
“You wanna know why?? Fine! I’ll tell you! It’s just like you and Mark! I can use one of you to get to the other easily, and neither of you do a thing about it because you don’t want the other to get hurt! People have done it before, it’ll happen again, and I can’t handle that much helplessness ok?!” His fists were clenched, shaking by his sides.
"What does that have to do with us Wilford? Are you so upset that I share a deeper bond with someone other than you? I'm fucking sorry someone treats me like a fucking person for once in my life! You know, maybe if you didn't keep using me like you always do, I wouldn't value Mark over you. Don't blame me for something that you fucking caused!" Fairy's eyes began to water. He didn't want to keep going, but it felt good to let it out.
“You’re missing the whole point!! I--” He stopped, turning away abruptly to calm himself. He would not tell Fairy that. That was a horrible choice.
"You what Wilford? What the fuck could I possibly be missing? Please let me know! I'd love to fucking hear why you abuse me all the fucking time! I'd love to understand why the fuck you hate me that much! What did I do to deserve this? I've done nothing but fucking give you my damn life! What more could you want? What the fuck am I missing?" He knew Wilford was about to blow. He probably would have been terrified if it weren't for the fact that he was just as angry as the other.
He ran a hand through his hair, still shaking in anger and breathing heavy now. He whirled around to face Fairy. “I’m scared, ok?? I’m scared that I’ll end up being close enough to someone that they can be used against me and I’ll care too much for them to be able to get out of it.” He was tearing up. Not good. “I can’t be close to people, Fairy! I need to be able to get away!!”
Fairy leaned back in shock. That was not what he was expecting. But, it made sense. After all, why would he lie about something like this? Fairy slowly rose from where he had collapsed and cautiously made his way to Wilford, his hand slightly extended in front of him. With every step he took, the softer the expression on his face became. When he reached Wilford, he tilted his head while his lip quivered. After staring deeply into the other's eyes, he placed his hand on Wilford's cheek and offered a sad yet reassuring smile.
He turned his head, speaking in that ‘about to cry’ voice. “D-don’t touch me.....” He was ruining everything. Why had he let that out?
Fairy's smile disappeared as soon as Wilford broke eye contact, but he never moved his gaze. He slowly wiped Wilford's tears with his thumb before he whispered, "it's okay."
“It’s not...” He whispered back, squeezing his eyes shut and shaking his head
After looking away in indecisiveness, Fairy quickly wrapped his arms around Wilford. "I won't ever do that to you Wilford. You know that. I hate you, but I love you so fucking much. You have no idea the things I would do for you: the things I have done for you. I won't ever leave you. I promise." Fairy didn't know what else to say. He just hoped Wilford understood how much he lived by his own word. Promises were everything to him: his code.
”You might not...--” He shut up before he could start crying and make things worse.
"It's okay Wilford. You can tell me. I won't think any less of you for letting go of your pride. No one else will know. Please, talk to me." Fairy was also at the verge of tears as he tried as he burrowed his head into Wilford's chest. He wasn't sure who he was trying to comfort at this point.
Wilford took one last shaky breath and wrapped his arms around Fairy, shoving his face down into the other’s neck. He was usually a pretty good actor, but it was obvious he was about to crack.
"Wilford, I know it's hard for you to trust other people. But, you can't go through this alone. I'm here. I always have been, and I always will. I'm afraid I'll love you for life. No, I know I'll love you even after my death. Please, sallow you proud and let me help." His voice started to shake while his legs began to grow weak.
He tightened his grip on Fairy and whispered, “I don’t w-wanna get hurt...”
"Do I let that stop me?"
He shook his head no.
"I won't hurt you Wilford. You know that I won't. I won’t let other people use it against you. You know I'm not that kind of person. Take Mark for example. You let me get close to him to use both of us. But it didn't work because our bond is too strong to be broken by another person."
He buried his face deeper into the others neck. "What, ours isn't strong enough...?" he mumbled
"Maybe it could be, if you let me help you. It might be even stronger, who knows. I mean, after all, I'm here on my own account. No one is forcing me to do this, no one is manipulating me to do this. You're the one who's not letting me in. You're the reason our relationship isn't as meaningful."
"Because I'm weak..."
"No, it's because you're afraid of being weak."
"Same thing.. "
"Look, you can't go through life being controlled by your fears. You can't expect to get anywhere if you let them. Please, let me help you push past this. It'll only help you get stronger. Your fear of weakness is what makes you weak."
He was silent for a long time, thinking. Finally he whispered out an "ok"
For some reason, Fairy couldn't breathe. He couldn't tell if it was from surprise or happiness or something else. His eyes were wide while he clung tighter to Wilford's clothing and slowly nodded. "Thank you. Now, what was it you were going to say? Something that I might not do?"
He shook his head. "You already answered that on your own.. You wouldn't hurt me... And no one else would either..."
Fairy's gaze turned to the floor at the last five words. No one else would either. He knew that wasn't true, but he couldn't exactly tell him that. "Is there anything else?"
He shook his head no again, stepping closer to hug him better
Fairy couldn't hold it in anymore. The built up tears started to drain from his eyes and soak Wilford's shirt. He didn't know why he was crying, and it frustrated him. Do I have to cry over every little thing? His breath shook as he tried to catch it again. "I'm sorry."
"why...?"
"I'm sorry I'm so helpless. I'm sorry I'm such a failure. I try so hard to keep everyone happy, but I can't even do that with the people that matter to me most. I'm hopeless. I'm sorry you have to worry about me. I'm sorry I'm the one you chose to share this with. I'm sorry I waste all of your time. I'm sorry... that I exist. I'm so sorry," Fairy cried, his voice shook with every word. He really was as pathetic as Wilford always told him he was.
".....Do you believe those things?"
Fairy bit his lip and slowly nodded his head. He felt like his legs were going to collapse and his breathing was erratic. "You were right. I'm just a pathetic failure and a hopeless case. It's why I do what you tell me. It makes me feel important and like I can do something right while making someone I care about happy. I'm tired of failing. I'm tired of wasting time. I'm tired of myself."
He could feel Fairy shaking, so he pulled the other to the ground with him, settling Fairy into his lap. "It's all a lie Fairy... You're better than you think. It's my fault you feel that way..."
"No, it's not your fault I'm the way I am. I'm not any better. I try to keep people happy so that I'm happy. Everything I do is for myself. I tell myself otherwise, but it's the truth. I only listen to you to make myself feel better. I only befriended Mark so I could feel like a person. I only stay optimistic on the outside so that I'll believe what I say. I'm a disgusting person. I'm glad you let me know who I really am. I'd rather know than live in a pointless lie. I don't deserve Mark. I don't deserve you. I don't deserve anything." Fairy shut his eyes as he curled up against Wilford. The gentle way he was being held felt so nice and comforting.
“Fairy... I never believed any of what I called you... I don't deserve you."
"Then why did you say it? It's alright Wilford, you don't need to lie to me. I understand why you hate me. I understand why you use me. I understand why you chose me to die." (ooops there it is heheh)
"I needed someone I could rely on to follow my orders...!"
"I know, that's why I do it. I'm happy that I'm the one. I'd rather it be me than someone else. That's another reason I've come to obey you so readily. I've always known. I used to fight it at first, but now I've come to accept it. I'm the only one that deserves to die. If it was someone else, I don't know what I would do. Thank you. I owe you a lot." Fairy let out a forced laugh before he pulled himself closer to Wilford, his ear directly over Wilford's chest. Ba-dump. Bu-dump. Ba-dump. The steady beating of the other's heart filled Fairy's ear. He could feel his own start to synchronize with the pattern. Just like then.
"I don't want you to die...!" he pulled Fairy even closer, voice wobbling.
"But I do," Fairy whispered. He found it hard to breathe or speak anymore. His lips formed a sad yet grateful grin. Wilford's words had honestly shocked Fairy. Even if it ruins the plan?
His face slowly transformed into a pained glare. "Well, you're not going to."
“But Wilford, I know that it needs to happen for your plan to work. I know that. I'd rather have it be me than someone who doesn't deserve it." Like I do.
He hated this feeling. This was exactly what he wanted to avoid. He squeezed his eyes shut and buried his face in Fairy's hair.
It hurt Fairy to know that Wilford cared enough to go around the plan just for him. "Please, I don't deserve this. I'm just wasting your time. Whatever you have to do is more important than this. I'm not worth the trouble. I'm a lost cause and I don't deserve to feel like this. My emotions are meaningless, just like my life."
“You're not dying... " he whispered into Fairy's hair, rubbing his back. "It's gonna be fine.." he rambled little reassuring things, more for Fairy than for himself
Fairy was disgusted with himself. He really didn't want Wilford to waste his time on someone that didn't matter. But he liked the feeling of the breath warming the top of his hair, the feeling of the hand gently stroking his back, the feeling of being important. There he was thinking about himself again. All he could do was mutter, "please."
He made a confused noise. "Please...?"
"Stop lying. Just leave me, I can't stand you to see me like this. I'll be fine, I always have been. Every time I've gotten through it on my own, and I'll do it again. Stop wasting your time on me. I don't deserve it."
He clung to Fairy tighter at those words. "I won't... I..." he squeezed his eyes shut, willing the tears away.
Fairy glanced up and tilted his head back in shock. Wilford Warstache was crying. He was willingly crying, in front of him. And not just that, but it was because of him. He wasn't worth any of this, but it helped him feel like he was at least worth something. The heartless man had been touched. That made him happy for some reason. Happy, and loved. May- maybe I’m worth something after all.
"I did this to you...!" he could only whisper at this point or he'd lose it and start bawling. "I'm so s-sorry...!"
"Why are you sorry?" Fairy heard the pain in Wilford's voice, and it caused his heart to ache. There's nothing to be sorry about. I'm glad you did. Now, I have no fear of death.
Wilford shook his head, tears leaking out despite his efforts. "I made you like th-this...!"
"Made me like what?" What are you talking about? I've always been this way. You helped me to realize that. You've taught me to live every day to the fullest. I won't be alive for much longer, so I need to make my final days count.
He shook his head again, hugging Fairy as close as he could to hide the fact that he was crying
"Wilford, look at me." Fairy was going to say this once, so he needed to make sure he was listening to him. This had been swarming in his head for a while now, but he never had a reason to say it until now. He needed to be as clear as he could.
He reluctantly did so, tears still streaming down his cheeks.
"If you don't kill me, then I will." (oooops feels again my bad heheh)
He froze, his grip on Fairy tightening and his expression turning to fear. "You will not!" he tried to speak forcefully but his voice wobbled
Fairy said nothing but stared into Wilford's eyes with unmoving determination. His face was gentle, but firm. He wasn't lying. He wanted to be the one to die. He knew Wilford too well to know that he would just find another sacrifice, and he hated that thought. If it did come down to it, he would do it. No one would stop it from happening. This was just how it had to be.
"Fairy I won't let you!! Why are you doing this?? "
"Because no one else can." He started regretting telling Wilford that. But it was for the better he understood that, right? Now, he'll know not to waste his time and energy on him.
"You said you wouldn't hurt me...."
Those words tore Fairy's heart in pieces. "W-w-what? Why would that hurt you?"
"This is why I didn't wanna let you in! Even just this little bit and it hurts, Fairy!!"
"W-w-why does this hurt you? Isn't this why you created me? You made me for this specific purpose. I-I- thought, I thought this is what you wanted."
"Yes! And now I screwed it up!"
"Screwed what up? I don't-" he was cut off by the look in Wilford's eyes. He had never seen him like this before. Usually, Fairy found it easy to read others' emotions, but now-
"I need to be alone now." he said bluntly and looked away.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"It's my fault."
"What? I don't understand what you mean."
"Fairy." he turned back to look at him "I need to be alone now."
Even though he fought every bone in his body, Fairy slowly nodded in understanding and pulled himself up. He avoided Wilford's glare as he sat in his lap for a while, not sure what to do. If he stayed, he would just make him mad. But, if he left- For some reason, he gently pecked Wilford on the cheek before quickly standing up and opening the door. He froze at the in the door way with his hand still holding onto the doorknob. He took one last look at the devastated man before him. He let out a sigh and carefully closed the door. Now that he was alone, Fairy feel to the floor, his legs tucked under him. The tears felt like knives running down his face. There was no stopping the pain. He was bleeding out the only way he knew how.
He pulled out his gun, turning it around and noticing every scratch and dent. He dismantled it in seconds, laying the bullets to the side and stared at all the pieces, memorizing them, before he put it back together just as quickly. It usually calmed him to just dismantle and reassemble things over and over, but it wasn't working now.
