kind of disappointed at the lack of fairlac content because oh my god the potential. like what do you mean you are sylvain verlac and you have been kinda in love with the consul's son for possibly years and then you randomly meet him on your runaway voyage with his stupid dog that keeps bothering you.

and then you go on this super intense murder mystery together and he keeps looking at you like he finds you attractive but there is also a sadness of the whole world in his eyes. and then you kinda save his life and you have this intense makeout session that ends with you admitting that other half of your soul is dead when his is waiting for him back at home.

and then you say "i am your companion now" and you getting him off makes him realize that he needs to let go of his guilt and grief and you decide to do it together and never leave each other’s side again.

god i hate gay people so much they can never get together in a normal way.

a sea change was a very lovely read. finally Matthew is healing. finally he learns that he's always had within himself all that he needed to be at peace. the exact moment in which he realizes that he is content with his own life and speaks it out loud in wonder will remain with me for a long time.

in tlh he had himself fully convinced there would not, never will be, anything better for him. he was trapped between hating himself for what he had done, shame about that secret and his addiction, and the belief that he could never amount to anything, let alone grow into a person someone else could ever love. but here he is now, slowly learning that compassion and forgiveness will give us a thousand chances if we let it, planning out whatever may be in the future for himself and Sylvain.
