Nordlys by Roger Marks Via Flickr: Fairtransport sailing ship "Nordlys" of 1873 unloading a small cargo of wine on the Haldon Pier, Torquay. She is one of three sailing vessels in the Dutch Fairtrainsport fleet, which provides "emmission free" sea transport. She is thought to be the oldest cargo ship still trading. 21st May 2018.
Save Govan Graving Docks
We have partnered with the Sail Cargo Alliance to support the preservation of Govan docks in Glasgow
The docks would be a multi social point that will facilitate a hub designed around the original purpose of Sail-Shipping and repair with markets where people can socialize
Please show your support by liking the Govan Docks Maritime Park facebook page or by connecting with Fairwinds Trading Company
Last year I had the opportunity to sail from The Isle of Wight to Amsterdam on a square rig Schooner called The Tres Hombres. It was the last leg of the voyage, transporting fine rum, coffee, mollasses and cocoa from the Caribean using no fossil fuels. Here are some of the shots I took of the ship and Dutch crew on an old Konica Auto S2 rangefinder. Take a look at the rest of the shots here.
Worlds Only Sail-Cargo-Ship comes to Scotland
Quetzal Shipping & Trading Co would like to inform you of the imminent arrival of the exclusive Sail-Cargo vessel SV Tres-Hombres,
The 32 metre brigantine ship owned and operated by Fairtransport will be docking in the small east coast Scottish port of Eyemouth on the weekend of the 30th of August,
The vessel will be greeted by our horse and cart team who are sending over west to east coast samples of Sulwath Beer
Pull the strings! Demand sustainable transport.
Having a mind blowing idea, something that is truly new and original, and absolutely world changing… simply is not enough.
I am no advocate of statistics per se, but let me quote someone who manages to make my point quite eloquentl
Doing anything worthwhile takes forever. 90% of what separates successful people and failed people is time, effort, and stamina.
(A worthwhile read, if you haven’t yet: Hugh MacLeod’s manifesto ‘How to be creative.’)
And so, team FairTransport is putting in the hours/days/weeks/months on their inherently successful idea Ecoliner. Several business meetings have passed already, hosted at Deloitte, where experienced advisors help our passionate team to transform their idea into a viable business. Quite a change in lingo, from starboard and foresail, to stakeholders and investment-brief. But our sailors are determined to make it work, and add the skills of businessmen to their talent
Making the Ecoliner a profitable business is an essential step: the team needs investors and a solid business plan to get their idea afloat. An 8000 tons hybrid cargo sailing ship needs to be designed, built and operated; a complex and costly operation!
The Ecoliner is no hobby project, it isn’t a costly fairy tale. It truly is a solid investment! The ship is faster than regular cargo ships and uses far less fuel, making it a very competitive business for the transport industry. And of course, the environment is a tremendous winner in this deal. A trait that consumers around the world are more and more adamant abou
So what can you do, to help the business of the Ecoliner?
Demand CO2 free transport of anything and anything you buy! At the end of the chain, it’s you - the consumers - who are pulling the strings. Pull them in the right direction, and help change the world for the better.
