Northwestern Polytechnic (NWP) is taking steps to mitigate an anticipated ongoing budget shortfall and ensure the financial sustainability and long-term success of its programs and services for learners in northern Alberta.
As part of these measures, the Board of Governors has made the difficult decision to close the polytechnic’s satellite Fairview campus at the end of the academic year. An extensive review of operations and finances shows the Fairview campus is not financially sustainable and no longer meets the needs of students or industry.

The decision to close the Fairview campus was likely made in May of this year.
Despite that, NWP allowed the fall intake of Animal Health Technology students to start their 2 year, non transferrable program.
They also allowed applications for the fall 2026 intake for the Animal Health Technology (AHT) program, which a) potential students had to pay an application fee, and b) meant potential students that were accepted will now miss deadlines applying to other schools.
There are no plans to move the AHT program to the Grande Prairie campus (which would be incredibly costly as theres a full lab, operating rooms, kennels, classrooms, and the farm) and the program isn't standardized; meaning students who finish year 1 at NWP Fairview can't easily transfer to another college to finish the program.
NWP has been cutting programs and services at the Fairview campus for years, and this is the final cut. They're just cutting the whole campus. There are so many jobs that will be lost, not to mention the economic impact on the wider Peace Country area.
Continuing education should be locally accessible to everyone, and this area is going to be negatively impacted by the closure of the NWP Fairview campus.
Some Improvements that I did these past few months, consider these four a teaser for my upcoming fanfic revival.
Just finished As Good As Dead...😭
I just finished off the series and I can't tell if I love Holly Jackson or I hate her right now (don't get me wrong, I love this series so much) because that ending just almost killed me. These books are so good and definitely one of my favorite series now.
Like, we'll never get to know how Pip answered Ravi's last "Hey Sarge, remember me?" message, and that will surely be the death of me. He actually asked that...as if she could ever forget that sweet boy!
