"JUMP!" one of the students screamed when they reached the peak.
Everything had been going so well. The famous Class A had been on their last summer camp, when -yes, you guessed correctly- villains attacked. It had just been a couple of Noumus, but it made the class separate. Some stayed to take care of the monsters, but one saw the retreating group and started to chase them.
Unfortunately, none of the people in said group had enough raw power to defeat a Noumu, so their only option was to run. And since they also had two civilians with them, it was their job to secure their safety. Those two civilians were Hatsume Mei and Melissa Shield. The two engineers were there to help with support items and were the only ones crazy enough to accompany Class A. Melissa didn't understand why, but she could see it now.
As they run away through the woods, the group found themselves at a ravine with a lake at the bottom. It had been Asui the one to scream the idea of jumping. Without another way out, the students do as the frog hero suggested and jump. They crash into the water safely and swim to the shore. The Noumu doesn't follow them, luckily.
"Is everyone alright?" Satou asks, breathing heavily.
"... where's Mei?" Melissa asks, when she notices the other engineer missing.
Asui jumps back into the water without a second to waste, and comes back out seconds later with the pink-haired girl on her back. She lays her on the ground to which Melissa crawls towards her. "Mei! Mei!" she shakes her. When she doesn't respond, Melissa puts her ear over her heart.
"No, Mei... no... no..."
She start pressing down on the other girl's chest rhythmically. One time, two times, three, four, five.
Breath...
Breath...
"Please, Mei!" one, two, three, four, five...
COUGH COUGH
The girl with pink dreadlocks, suddenly hacks water out of her lungs, making everybody around sigh in relief. Melissa starts crying out of relief too. The tears in her eyes sliding down her cheeks as she takes in air deeply.
"Hey, Meli..." the girl groans, making the blonde look back at her.
"Yes, Mei?"
"... we need a baby for breathing underwater," the girl grins, and makes the other one chuckle.
