Was thinking about Fairydustshipping earlier today and wondering which other older League members they could be familiar with when I remembered Glacia. Much like Bertha, she doesn’t really get much in the way of characterization beyond “Trainer from a non specific other Region who’s disappointed by weak challengers and appreciates passionate effort”. While I was looking into her bulbapedia page to find something to build off of, I noticed something that might suggest where she’s from: Her rematch team in ORAS includes a Beartic and a Vanilluxe. This along with her opera singer adjacent design makes me wonder if she used to be a famous stage actress on Unova’s equivalent of Broadway. Possibly guest starring in some high budget productions in Galar, which is how she met Opal. Considering the possibility of her being an amicable ex of Opal’s, and being perceived as a “tough act to follow” by the shy and anxious Bertha.
Do you have any particular ideas about Glacia? For example, how well do you think she’d get along with Diantha, if they met?
Thank you for your patience. I absolutely love this and am definitely adopting it into my headcanons.
I absolutely love Glacia being perhaps at one point a Broadway- or Vaudeville-type performer, and maybe even briefly a starlet on the silver screen. But I really really especially love the thought of her being an opera singer. Perhaps she was known for her incredible singing voice and had an insane range she could hit and has traveled all over the world to do operatic performances. I could see her even being the type who, when she was younger, performed for royalty or important political figures in other regions. Like, perhaps she was at THE Top and achieved a legendary status as an opera singer that countless others have been inspired by and chased after her success but never were able to do it quite like she did. I imagine she had a voice that could move you to tears, or perhaps, strike an icy chill into your heart. I absolutely LOVE shit like this.
And yeah that would be a VERY tough act to follow. I could see many probably thinking that Glacia and Opal being somewhat more similar in some ways, both being outgoing individuals with a sort of natural charm about them that is magnetic... Which I don't see Bertha ever having had. I do personally think she's plenty charming in her own ways, but it's much quieter and subtler. And I definitely think that as a younger woman, she would have felt VERY self conscious about that, especially after Glacia, like you said.
And tbh I can see Opal introducing Bertha to Glacia and Bertha immediately being absolutely dumbfounded bc Glacia would be a world famous performer, and breathtakingly gorgeous in almost an ethereal way I think, and I get the sense that she has a natural way about her that makes it feel like she's looking right into your brain. I think she would be a polite and nice person but I also think she would be incredibly intimidating to meet if you don't have much self confidence. Especially if you feel like you're a nobody, because she is definitely Someone. Bertha is not a tall person but Glacia made her feel small in an entirely new way.
And with Diantha, I absolutely wanna tackle that, but perhaps in a different post. I'm struggling to use my brain and haven't been feeling super talkative recently but this sort of thing gets me so excited so once again, thank you for your patience.
