My heart. When I look at him it always just stops for a second. It’s really an extraordinary experience…this fairy granny thing. Even though we’re not together right now I sing songs to him while I’m looking at his picture, I look deep into his beautiful eyes and talk to him and tell him stories about life , and his great grandparents, all of the beautiful gardens and all of the beautiful ponies he’s going to get to ride. We have this adorable freestanding library right around the corner from our house. Nothing prepares you for this magic. For the last 13 days I’ve cleaned, cooked, done laundry, hugged, supported, loved , and watched dozens of Christmas movies at all times of the day while hugging this little guy so his mom and dad could grab some sleep, care for each other and continue to learn all about themselves and this wee little Wolf cub that they’ve brought into the world with their grit and passion. To figure out how their lives have changed and how to love and support each other now that they’ve created their own little family. To figure out how they want to raise their child and what works for them as they have suddenly become three. I think we often forget that the post partum time is about the new mom and dad and what they need. The babe gets all the attention he needs simply by having finally been born. It’s the new parents that need gifts….gifts of love, space and time without interference. A cocoon. A nest. I’m so grateful to have been able to provide this for them just like my own mother did for me. She made my post partum time pretty perfect. She never told me what to do, she just cared for me as I slowly figured it out, offering advice here and there, although I know she bit her tongue a lot 😂 She hugged me while I cried, but let me figure out the why of it. ❤️ I’m so honored to have been able to pay that one forward for my own son and daughter. I’m so grateful that they let me.
