The story of Curly Locks.
Week 4
This week, I finished my part of the animation for the motion graphics project. I have sent my work to everyone else, and I think they’ll put it together once they have finished their bits. I also started making the credits for the ending. I began working on my personal experimentation reel and also started work on the group reel, however, not everyone has sent me their work yet.
Week 3
This week we were very productive as a group, we managed to get our whole animatic together, where we took the assets from the storyboard and create a coloured animatic to show the mood change. The animatic won’t be too dissimilar to our final animation. I also started working on fonts for the animation, as we wanted to have some animated text on screen. I will have to add that right at the end because since it is a font that I have created it is only installed onto my machine, and won’t work on everyone else’s. So, it’ll be my job to complete the final render. I think we’ve been working really well as a group, and watching through the final animatic, you can see that it is almost seamless, that we are all working on the same page, and you can barely tell where one of our animations ends and someone else’s begins.
Week 2
This week was very productive for my group, we decided that we would each come up with our own idea and then discuss it before we had a collaboration session with Jon, so that we had a clear idea when we went in. I came up with a more modern day version, that still had the same moral as the original story. We met up before our session on Tuesday, and we each pitched our ideas to one another. Although they liked my idea, we decided it would be best to stray away from the original moral, and distant it from the Disney adaptation. We decided that our story would be quite dark and that ultimately Beauty would become the beast, due to power corruption. We began working on a script, which we actually got down pretty quickly. I think Elizabeth has a strong image of what the final animation will look like, and she says that she wants to make all of the assets for us to animate. When we went to our session, we discussed what kind of art style we would like to do and character designs. We then had our script review with Lynsey, which actually went really well, we read her our script and she seemed to visualise it quite well. Over this weekend we each chose the beat of the story that we wanted to animate, and we created a storyboard for each of our parts that we will put together into an animatic next week.
Week 1
This week we were given our brief for the Motion Graphics: Fairytales project, and I am very excited. I love fairytales and the lectures we had on them last year was extremely interesting. We had a workshop in our groups on recreating a fairytale where we were given a script from ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. It was a lot of fun playing around with the possibilities of recreation. We then also had a workshop on animating in After Effects, which was really interesting. My group was given the fairytale ‘Beauty and the Beast’, and after reading through the script, I thought it was going to be very hard to cut down to 6 beat points. However, I managed to do so, and began reimagining the story. As a group, we also started talking about art direction for the final animation. We talked about each others animation styles and how we could incorporate them all, we discussed how we could create stylistic silhouette animation, which we all thought was a really good idea. No one has really taken charge on the project just yet, but we are busy gathering research as individuals and then we will all come together next week to discuss them.
