things to remember on spoiler day
There are a LOT of people out there who see the excitement surrounding spoilers as an opportunity to fuck with you. Treat everything with suspicion.
In particular: don’t trust text spoilers, they are too easy to fake. For every one (1) text spoiler that is correct, there will be 2-3 that are trolling bullshit.
Remember that context can change things MUCH more than you think, and you do not have it.
Treat telephone game translations (e.g. from Chinese or Korean) with a whole salt shaker. It’s a translation of a translation of a language that’s heavily context-dependent.
Don’t jump on the translators for mistakes or “mistakes”. Translation is a difficult and imprecise art, language is often ambiguous, and they are doing a nice thing for you. Don’t be an ass.
Due to all of the above, leaks are inherently not worth getting upset over. Get upset once the official translation and full chapter are out.
It is okay to step back and avoid leaks and spoiler discussion if you need to. I know it feels like you’re missing out on a big party, but other things–like your blood pressure–are more important. If you’re no longer having fun, you’re doing it wrong.
