GOP reasoning:
Candidate Trump promised to build his border wall (and have Mexico pay for it, but we’ll ignore that part).
Trump won the election (despite losing the popular vote by the largest margin in history, but we’ll ignore that part too).
Therefore, building Trump’s wall is “The Will of the People!”
Reality:
61% of adults in the United States disapprove of Trump “declaring a national emergency to build a wall along the U.S. - Mexico border”; only 36% approve.
58% of adults disagree that “there is currently a national emergency along the U.S. - Mexico border”; only 39% agree.
57% of adults think Trump is “Misusing his presidential power” in declaring a national emergency to build the wall; only 39% think he is “Properly using his presidential power.”
60% of adults think Trump declaring a national emergency to build the wall “Should be legally challenged in court”; only 35% think it “Should not be legally challenged in court.”
Finally, 54% of registered voters say Trump declaring a national emergency to build the wall makes them “Less likely” to “vote for him for re-election in 2020″; only 33% say it makes them “More likely” to vote for him in 2020.

The liberal watchdog group Public Citizen filed a federal lawsuit Friday in the District of Columbia on behalf of three Texas landowners
“The president has no inherent authority to declare emergencies to override appropriations laws and other laws enacted by Congress; his emergency powers are defined and limited by statute. Because no national emergency exists with respect to immigration across the southern border, the President’s Declaration exceeds the limited authority delegated to the President.”
What do you mean “no national emergency exists”? How dare you! Trump says it exists, doesn’t he? Isn’t Trump insisting that this is “A situation beyond the ordinary which threatens the health or safety of citizens and which cannot be properly addressed by the use of other law”?
“I want to do it faster. I can do the wall over a longer period of time. I didn’t need to do this. I would rather do it much faster.”
