Color test number I lost count...
Second to last test of the new colors I got. This time it's Blacklight powder and UV glitter. Blacklight powder looks amazing! I'm really digging how bright orange it looks- I see some halloween pours in the future with this. The glitter used turns purple in the sunlight. Sorry for the questionable photos- i need to learn how to take blacklight photos!
Kirby Fail
Had to share this rather epic fail but I've been slow at posting to social media due to ~life~ in general being chaos. I posted one of the pics before but not the sequence of pics with details. When I was pouring the resin dice and one of the Halloween diks I miscalculated how much resin I'd use and had quite a bit left over once I'd gotten everything into the molds so I grabbed the Kirby mold to dump the rest in there and maybe have a fun glowy green Kirby as well. Turns out the resin was at that moment setting as I started to dump it into the Kirby mold and what came out was a gloppy mass of half set resin and half liquid resin. Liquid resin dripped into the mold and the mass set on top going nowhere. I rushed the stuff into the pot knowing Kirby was a loss (no harm since I didn't intend to pour one anyhow) and well.. The result was hysterical.
I ended up with a set glop of resin with a mushroom top of Kirby's head on top of it and the droopy edge of one foot. This is my favorite failure to date and is just hilarious to look at.
Final Tits Pose
I'm happy with these poses now and going to start working on the final sculpture, probably in sculpey/cosclay. Those feet on the flying one are going to be the death of me... Why do I always chose to do things the hard way? I could have just done two simple sitting birds, but no, I want to do ~~~dynamic~~~ poses. [insert mocking spongebob image here.]
Attempt #2!
Success!! @k.lecrone told me that my last cast may be what's called a "flash cure" and that it might not be my materials that went wrong but the conditions in which I was casting so I gave it another try in more ideal conditions. It was a resounding success and I love the results! The chameleon flakes are absolutely gorgeous and the color change is really satisfying, though it barely shows on Kirby. I'm going to play with this a lot more I think! Added some comparison pics with the failed cast on the left, success on the right both without sunlight and in the sun.
Derp
Me: This resin heats up fast as it cures, getting warm and hot in the cup as I'm pouring. Also me: These thermal color drops change color from blue to pink, so the cast I'm making should change color with heat!
My stupid ass as I'm pouring, who never put two and two together to get fucking four: OMG IT'S CHANGING COLOR AS I'M POURING THE RESIN!!!!!
Snapped a sneak peek before I put this cast under pressure while it set.
Dik-Dik finished!
Finished the Dik-dik! I'm loving him! What do you guys think? Dat butt! Any colors you think I should cast him in?
Kirby - Finished!
Finished sculpting on Kirby! Now to prime and sand any flaws then cast! I'm looking forward to casting this boy.
