FALL Internship Communications & Event Management

DESCRIPTION
ACC is seeking an energetic and qualified intern to provide communications and event management support. The intern will play a key role in the organization and implementation of several events: Andersonville Arts Weekend, various holiday-season events, and a brand-new local beer festival (as yet unnamed). A student in this position can expect to gain experience in all aspects of events management – including, but not limited to: initial planning, developing a communications plan, soliciting donations, following up with local businesses, managing social media, setting up ticket sales, promotion, site set-up, volunteer solicitation and management, and day-of event supervision. Qualified for academic credit.

INTERNSHIP LEARNING GOALS
The intern will working under the direct supervision of the Marketing & Member Services Manager on several events throughout the Fall and Winter. A student in this position can expect to gain experience in all aspects of events management – including, but not limited to: initial planning, developing a communications plan, soliciting donations, following up with local businesses, managing social media, setting up ticket sales, promotion, site set-up, volunteer solicitation and management, and day-of event supervision.

Approx. 10 hrs/week
QUALIFICATIONS
• Demonstrably strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and people skills. • Must be very computer-literate and web-savvy. Proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel required. Access, Illustrator, In Design, Adobe experience a plus. Experience with Google Docs also a plus. • Facebook, Twitter • Experience with Constant Contact and basic web design software, or ability to learn quickly • Demonstrably high levels of self-motivation, ability to work in low-structure environment, and multi-tasking • Relevant experience in event planning, marketing, project management, or communications a plus.
COMPENSATION TYPE
Federal Work Study - Hourly
COMPENSATION DETAILS
This is an unpaid internship. We would prefer a student looking to earn academic credit, and will work with that student to fulfill those requirements. There is the potential for this position to be for work-study.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Our Workplace: We are a small office (2 full-time ADC employees, and 3.5 employees of the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, our sister organization) with a casual work environment (blue jeans allowed most days). We work in a fast-paced environment that demands a lot of flexibility – each day is different and we are constantly responding to the needs of the Andersonville business community as they arise. We work hard, but also have fun (community cookie breaks and foosball tournaments are a regular occurrence). Our office hours are generally 9:30-5:30, Monday-Friday, with an occasional weekend or evening event.
