29. If they could choose their epitaph for their grave, what would they choose?
Ada would choose something like "Sometimes, we just have to fall in love with the question" for an epitaph.
21. What personal problems/issues do they have? Pet peeves?
Ada has a tiny pet peeve with:
people taking at face value that the gods of every pantheon that's ever existed are who they say that they are
and that people are just getting extremely wrapped up in the ideas of what she's used to dismissing as "fairy tale" concepts being real without further investigation.
Other pet peeves are:
her doing things subconsciously (picking at skin, that sort of thing),
people pronouncing her name as "Eye-Da",
people calling her "Lynnie",
people interrupting and/or talking over her,
and people not respecting others' opinions.
Ada's got a problem with being twelve levels in denial about two specific things:
magic existing
the idea that people like her as a person.
Lately, it's felt like people either flock to her for her powers, the weird stuff she wanders into or has happen to her, or because she can help out with homework. It's hard for her to believe that people genuinely find her funny, interesting, or nice. She finds herself a lot of these things, but makes no assumptions that other people feel the same as it’d be illogical to assume that people share that perspective.
36. What does your character want most? What do they need really badly, compulsively? What are they willing to do, to sacrifice, to obtain?
Ada wants complete control over her powers and to help make Gotham a safer place, at least on a conscious level. What she needs is to believe that people honest to god do care about her.
At the end of the day, Ada is only willing to sacrifice one thing: herself. Sacrificing others isn't her style and she'd rather sacrifice bits of herself or her own things or her own happiness and/or all of the above.
Questions from (x), rambling about Burning Wheel character below. TW: child abuse, sexual abuse (neither is gone into depth in this post)
27. What kind of childhood did your character have?
Galene had two periods of her childhood: Sarah and Galene.
Her life as Sarah was...rough. Rough as shit. Her parents were shit and abused her physically and sexually.
After she was rescued and adopted by the Dakhma, Galene's childhood took an upswing in quality: she wasn't hit anymore, anybody who would even think about sexually abusing any child wasn't allowed within 20 miles of the Dakhman children, she was fed regularly, and her emotions were regularly validated and often done so in a manner that was incredibly enthusiastic and sincere.
41. What does your character do when they’re angry? Why?
I'm going to answer this one with a Mr. Rogers quote because it made me think about how Galene's been balancing her different modes of angry in the one session that I’ve played her.
"When you feel so mad you could bite?
When the whole wide world seems oh, so wrong...
And nothing you do seems very right?
What do you do? Do you punch a bag?
Do you pound some clay or some dough?
Do you round up friends for a game of tag?
Or see how fast you go?"
Normally, Galene would sit back and analyze the situation. What happened to make her angry? What kind of angry is she? She's personally got a scale of "petty" to "understandable causes" to "automatic kill", with most things falling under the middle with a few in "petty" and even fewer in "automatic kill". Which is a nice segue into:
33. Would they ever kill someone? What would someone have to do to push them to kill someone? If they would kill someone, why?
Galene's killed another sentient being exactly once before game: a non-Dahkman man was trying to steal the Dakhman horses. To the Dahkma, the theft of horses is as bad as trying to kill someone and to steal all of the Dahkma's horses? The equivalent of trying to kill all of the Dahkma.
Galene would kill for a couple of reasons: extreme self defense, defense of those she cares about, child abuse, slavery, and in the extremely rare case horse abuse (rare it’d be in these times where there aren’t many other ways to travel on land and with horses being expensive, but I’m prepared to smash in a fuck’s face for horse neglect, beating, etc).
