-- Fallen Bricks -- Part I -- The Prince --
Prince Felicletus Fiamma de Ragna was a poet, essayist, activist, dilettante archaeologist, explorer and traveler of the 18th century. Lyrical yet acerbic, avantgarde and controversial, he led a privileged but not too spoiled career.
Bisexual and polyamorous, Prince Felicletus threatened the men and offended the women of his age. Vegan and abolitionist, having spoken for the ending of human and animal servitude, he clashed with financial potentates and confronted the State. After the death of his wife and only son, Felicletus embraced Buddhism and, once marrying an Asian prince, was expelled from the Roman Church. In 1793, his uncle coronated instead of the Prince, Felicletus was hunted down in the court of his husband in the Himalayas, and sent into exile to Pa Cenula, a remote island dotted with Greek and Roman ruins. Two convicts were designated to serve him — an assassin and a witch. Increasingly devoted to the Prince over the years, still they must be ready to eliminate the young rebellious royal at a sign from the Crown. Dawn of the 19th century. Following an earthquake on the island, that unearths archaeological treasures while unleashing an unlikely mythological messenger monster, the arrival of a Crown galleon finally brings light as to why Felicletus has been kept alive for nearly a decade — and whether he is to live any longer.
Yet it’s not the battalions but a second earthquake to fulfill the Prince’s destiny, and that of his two helpers, with the appearance of a mysterious, godlike visitor.
bear with me
that I am slow in doing things
that I have been telling myself stories to go to sleep
since I was a child,
and still am
and falling asleep before finishing them
before finishing them...
