Oh I was LOCKED the fuck in for Terrifier 3 tonight, I’m afraid to report I absolutely loved it. The definitive modern slasher franchise, villain, final girl.
The burden of being any flavor of movie fan is watching some truly awful movies, and this goes doubly for being a horror fan specifically. Like, it is in fact part of the fun, but I’ve learned more than I ever expected about the many different shades of “worst thing I’ve ever seen, I love it” to “this shows the minimal required filmmaking competence and is therefore the most boring and unpleasant experiences of my life,” and so on.
All of this to say, I’m watching House of Salem (2016) and it’s falling in an unfortunate valley of decent concept but hooooorrible in all other respects. How does it have so little sense of mood, such bad pacing? Maybe one of these actors has ever acted before. The lighting is so inconsistent that some shots look like they were filmed in a porn studio and some like they were filmed in a dark club.
Watched Poor Things recently and liked it, then read some silly critiques of it and really liked it bc every complaint read just sounded like they wanted the film to be worse
apparently the book it’s adapted from is about scotland and glad that was removed. aggrieved scots are worse than aggrieved irish, but what can you expect from an author named alasdair
(also idk if it’s ‘better’ / ‘more feminist’ [or ‘less feminist’ as some critiques claimed, generally the whole framing of either seems tedious] in any meaningful sense, but personally prefer the ending of becoming a surgeon to becoming a gynaecologist as apparently is in the book—mostly think just a very silly critique of a minor adaptational change)
