This Day in Buster… September 4, 1927
Ninety-four years ago today saw the filming of what was arguably Buster Keaton’s most dangerous stunt, the falling house in “Steamboat Bill, Jr.” A one-take wonder that has fallen to greatness in cinematic history and thankfully didn’t end with Buster being history!

4,000 pounds of building crashed around him in one of the most daring and dangerous stunts ever attempted.
Many of the crew refused to watch, covering their eyes, and some even failed to turn up for the shooting of this scene!
And he doesn’t even flinch 😎

“Back Stage” is released. Buster Keaton’s famous falling house stunt from 1928’s “Steamboat Bill, Jr.” debuted here with Roscoe Arbuckle, although it was still Buster who brought down the house!

Buster Keaton films the scene he is likely most well-known for; the falling house in ‘Steamboat Bill Jr’. The facade that fell was reportedly two tonnes & the margin for error just two inches. As it was, the window frame clipped Buster’s arm. A skeleton crew took the shot as the majority couldn’t bear to watch. Just the day before, Buster had been told his studio was shutting down. He didn’t have anything to lose…
