Thoughts: A fandom classic!
This fic is a nostalgia train for me. I hop on it when I miss the good ol' days of LJ or when I need a fic that I've read so many times, it's like pulling on a favorite sweater & being comforted. Every time I read it, I wonder about how long it must have taken the author to fix up everything that they did.
There are screencaps of comms, google chat boxes to scroll through, texts & comments. It adds a layer of awesome interactivity that you rarely get with just reading plain text - this fic made it feel like I'd broken into their inboxes :) Sadly, some of the pics are now missing, almost three years later - a few links are broken & a profile or two has been purged. You can still get a great experience out of it, but I was bummed with this past re-reading to realize that some of the extra layers were gone.
Not only is the story of two BNFs [or Big Name Fans] flirting & falling in love & moving in together one of the cutest ideas ever, the author manages to keep everyone in character, while still appropriate for their setting. There is a certain way of speaking on LJ that is different than tumblr or twitter & the author puts it on John & Sherlock & the rest just right to make it feel like it really is a comm with a lot of wank going on.
This actually makes me want to dig out some older Ritiche!Holmes fics that I read around the time this fic was being written. It's like a double whammy of nostalgia for LJ & for everything I was doing around 2011 when I was still wayyy more active on LJ. It's fun to read even if you've never participated on that site - more like it's extra fun if you have.
