hey i love your essays, they're incredible!! thank you for writing them!! they're really making me think. like for example, here's a thought i had today: if vampires are a metaphor for the refusal to grow up, and buffy slaying them is her metaphorically defeating the parts of herself that want to cling to childhood, then it's interesting how a very early beat in spike's shift to becoming a force for good was him trying (and failing) to stake himself.

Yeah, I think if you stretch the metaphor beyond specifically "growing up" into the idea of change-vs-stagnation, then it makes sense. Spike is unable to be his old self so tries to stake himself and stop his character development in its track, rather than accept change.

they're @fallingtowers exalted character! they and Duster are both solars and both good at kicking the shit out of anything that needs shit kicked, but Duster is a lot nicer about it. Gray Wing could snap me over their knee like a toothpick (as could any of these three, but I would be most likely to be maimed by GW I think) and if we boned I might not survive (honorific)

last and certainly not least is @mechanicalriddle 's character Thorn, who is a funny lunar like my guy. given his general unawareness of how society works or money or much of anything that doesn't pertain to wandering the desert and fighting monsters, I'm not sure that Thorn would be a primo marriage candidate

obv he is hot and I would be down for it, but I don't think he'd want to fuck me given his general lack of interest in fucking. I'm staying humble. that probably means I marry Duster, fuck Gray Wing, and kill Thorn and cry forever about doing that to him. he gave my character's adoptive children employees soooooooo much money

okay okay okay okay maybe the only fair way to settle this is to assume Thorn will make an exception for me because I am very polite and for GW and Thorn to fight to the death over who gets to fuck me. I'm already done being humble I guess sorry
