Fallout: A Bible that Kills (a.k.a. Why I Loathe Chris Avellone so Much)
We have to recognise, at this point, that the Fallout Bible is utter trash that almost killed off Fallout before it had the chance to become anything. Any designer paying heed to it needs to think very carefully about what they're doing. Very, very carefully.
Fallout 2 Sgt. Granite comics
"He [Granite] and the EC crew hopped aboard the tanker, and escaped to the mainland after watching the fireworks from the top of the tanker, whispering "gawd-damn" to themselves and throwing suggestive glances at the women from Vault 13 and Arroyo. After reaching the mainland, they headed north to Navarro and were never heard from again, though their adventures could fill several eras worth of pulp comics."
Would anyone else like to see these comics? Seriously I would, Granite is pretty interesting I think.
Read the Fallout Bible here, alot of lore is overlooked by Bethesda
After reading up on Fallout I was begining to notice some odd things about their lore. I’m a relatively new fan of the series. Getting into it when Fallout 3 came out. I instantly fell in love and began to look up what happened in the first to and became even more confused. Out of pure fantasy and for fun I decided to alter Fallout history a bit.
1. The European Commonwealth starting the Resource Wars is completely out of character for Europe. Europe has a history of being a pacifist (i.e. WW II) and they should stay that way. Change number one is the in response to the Middle East raising oil prices, the European Commonwealth embargoes them and the U.S. instead declares war. With the UN unable to find common ground, the U.S. leaves followed by Canada, France and the rest of the members. The UN dissolves. The result is the USSR and China sees this as the start of the fall of democracy and China and the USSR invade Canada.
2. Los Angeles, New York, D.C., San Francisco and Detroit are all bombed to hell. HELLO. These are major cities and would be the focus of any nuclear strike. Results: Los Angeles is completely uninhabitable and becomes so irradiated it almost glows. Los Angeles becomes Necropolis and referred to sometimes as “The Glow”(I can see LA from my house and at the right time near sunset it becomes golden). Beverly Hills remains somewhat intact and the main headquarters of the NCR. San Francisco is completely leveled and the remains fought over by warring tribes and gangs. Alcatraz Island becomes the NCR northern headquarters. Washington D.C. is a crater. Completely abandoned by the U.S. government before the Great War. New York is also a ghoul city though not as irradiated. Detroit becomes Boneyard due to the mass amounts of industrial garbage. It was after all the automotive capital of America.
3. Due to the lack of importance before the war, Central America was hardly even touched. The most damage it’s suffered has been from nuclear fallout and and acid rain. Central Americas climate shifts to almost tropical. Austin Texas declares itself independent from the U.S. and over the years, has completely enclosed itself by a massive wall and refuses to make contact with the outside world. New Orleans is completely underwater.
I think that’s about all I’d like to do to the canon.
