y'all are so fucking lucky I got poisoned earlier this week, because I lack the ability to string together two sentences coherently but jesus fuck. Y'all in the Fallout fandom have the collective critical thinking skills of a swarm of fucking ants and it's annoying as shit.

I was talking about plot holes I'm having to plug in my fanfic, with my husband, and one of the things we talked about was how much of a set piece Boston is in Bethesda's hands. There's so much more to Boston than "ooh America". And, watching this documentary in conjunction with my readings on race relations really hammers home how frustrating it is when game designers just SHRUG their way out of reality. Which is shorthand for "predominately white and cis excuses poor writing because of "medium constraints. and "lore".

Which is the same gripe I have, albeit much smaller, when I think of the treatment my home town got in Fallout 2 by BlackIsle/Obsidian. When you reduce a place to a trope you really flatten WHY a people and a place grow the way they do and I think, from a historian's perspective, is so important to larger narrative considerations. I think that could easily have been remedied by *checks notes* even a fraction of forethought and consideration.
