#6: Mannequin

There’s something off about Doctor Zimmer’s bodyguard.

Armitage is his name, and he guards the old man. He does little else, and what little else he does rarely feels natural.

He’s polite, sure, but not friendly. He doesn’t smile. One almost wonders if he knows how. 

He follows Zimmer everywhere, never leaving his side - not even to the bathroom. When he does move, it’s with a stiff, smooth motion, the kind that brings to mind a well-oiled Protectron.

At dinners, he takes his Mole Rat rare, and consumes it with single-minded focus. He leaves just as soon as he arrives.

Other diners at the Weatherly Hotel murmur to each other when he’s gone, commenting on the strange waxy quality of his skin and the dead dullness of his eyes.

“Almost like a mannequin came to life,” someone says once, and from there the appellation seems to stick.

They have nothing against Armitage personally, it’s just…

There’s just something not quite human about him.
