False Tears

Author’s note: This is my first ever fanfic, if you guys liked it, like and reblog! Also this is a re-write of the False Tears card story (specifically the parts where Zoe and Juno were supposed to meet, so parts 3-4) with all of that said, hope you like the fic! “I can’t let you meet her, Juno.” The strictness in his words set the tone pretty well. This wasn’t going to be up for debate, at least for him.  

As much as I’d love to see the Violin Duo get back together, it wasn’t going to be likely. Zoe had changed, so did Juno…and with her condition, there was no way it’d be safe for them to meet. Not without one or both parties getting hurt. Thank God Dr. Richter stood firm. 

I didn’t say much, letting Dr. Richter and her talk it out. Besides, would it change his mind? I’ve met Juno before the incident, but we didn’t talk much overall. I remembered passing her by several times back in uni. Always had a spring in her step and a smile on her face. She was an active part of the Stellis U’s orchestra—I tried, but I only stayed like, a month or two. 

“But…I wanna meet her…I can stay safe!” Judging from her voice, she was choked up, almost about to cry. We only found out that Zoe was going to visit the moment she had arrived in the research center. 

That was a red flag. 

“I’m sorry, but we can’t just let her visit without an appointment.” He continued on, voice lowering a bit. “It’s not safe for both you and her, and I don’t want you to get hurt.”

I have to admit, he did have a point. Having her and Zoe meet without supervision was dangerous. There wasn’t much of an assurance that things would go smoothly, nor a backup plan if things went south. 

The tension fell thick, Juno didn’t really have much to respond to what was said. Looking down at the sheets of the bed, she sobbed. “I know but…I just want to say sorry…” 

Said silence was broken by a bang on the door. “Let me in!” Another bang punctuated her speech. “I know Juno’s in there!” 

“Dr. Richter, we have a situation—“ 

“On it.” His hand is already on the emergency button. His other free hand opened the door, seeing an angry Zoe Nelson. “Ms. Nelson, Juno isn’t open for visitation.” 

“I don’t care. I know she’s in there!” Zoe looked like she was sobbing, but her micro reactions were betraying the emotion she was trying to portray. 

He turned to me, giving a gesture to keep Juno from doing anything drastic. I approached Juno, making sure she wasn’t able to hurt herself. “Zoe! I knew you’d forgive me! I’m sorry for what I did! Can we start over?”

“Are you crazy? You upstaged me, and now you’ve got a replacement!” Zoe’s glare pierced through Juno’s fragile form but her eyes showed no care, even though she was nearly crying in front of Dr. Richter to let her in. “Didn’t know I was this replaceable…” 

Juno's eyes widened in disbelief. “Replace you? I’ve been wanting to say sorry since then! I’ve missed you so much….” She then looked at me, eyes welling up. “Can you...let me nearer? Maybe if I explain myself she won’t be mad—”

Zoe was distant—eyes looking down at her as if she was beneath her. “Why are you entering this competition? To walk all over me again? To steal my spotlight?”

“No...I’m not…” 

“Really?” Eyes rolled as she looked at Juno, who was almost a sobbing mess. “You destroyed my chance at fame! And now even my fans are siding with you after hearing about your return!”

“Please...stop...just…” Tears pooled from her eyes down to the blanket below. I gave Zoe a look, telling her to get out before things would get worse, but instead...she started gloating. 

A dark chuckle came out from Zoe. “Are you acting up again? That’s perfect—I’ll record all of it, and everyone’s gonna know you’re a lunatic!” It didn’t stop there as she said how she’ll prove to everyone that she was the better violinist. 

I steadied my hand, ready to hold Juno back if things went south. “Zoe, please stop!” 

“I will never, ever forgive you!” 

That was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Juno was shaking, begging me to let go. Her eyes were fixed onto the window of the building, but I instinctively grip tighter. Without hurting her, of course. I’m honestly at a loss of words, but I push forward, gripping ever so slightly. 

“Please escort her out of the premises,” Dr. Richter said to the two security guards who just arrived. It didn’t contain any of the usual warmth that he had, replaced with an icy chill. “Make sure she doesn’t beeline for the rooms next time, protocols are there for a reason.” 

Both guards escorted Zoe Nelson, who was kicking and screaming out of the room. The whole affair was quite the shocker, but I was trying to stay calm. If Dr. Richter could do it, then I can do it too. I let that thought simmer in for a few seconds until I noticed him looking at me. 

“Rosa, you alright?” His voice rang out in the silence. “She didn’t hurt you?” 

“All good, Dr. Richter,” I said, trying to emphasise a reassuring tone. “Just a scratch, but it’ll heal in a day or two.” 

“That’s good,” he replied. His assistant was ensuring that Juno was calmed down and on the bed. “We nearly avoided a tragedy today.” 

I nodded, but...was it all worth it? Broken friendships, a lack of closure...nothing changed. Was that truly the best outcome?
