i hope this letter finds you in good health. in fact, i hope this letter finds you at all. i don’t think the fodlan postal service is aware of abyss' existence, even more do i doubt he will enter. please get an actual address.

faerghus is faring well, as i am sure you are aware. to no small part thanks to you. the gift was well received. i do not know, or want to know, what you told the marquis but he turned out to be quite compliant all of a sudden. you have my thanks, though i would rather you didn't make a habit of it. we would rather not resort to threats in order to get our way.

(   this is what i am obligated tell you as faerghus' monarch. as your friend, i thank you must sincerely for dealing with our little pest problem. await a few crates of supplies as soon as we figure out your address. you have no right to deny.   )

i hope to make a visit at the monastery soon & shall certainly remember to greet you in person, too. if you will have me.

until then, please make an attempt to not die. you would be missed.

& when he did not know how they had ended up in a situation like this. sitting together had turned into talking until the castle had long since gone to bed had turned into mixing pancake batter in the kitchen, lit by the light of a single lantern they had found. dimitri was rather certain neither of them was certain of the exact components of the batter. not that it mattered for currently only a small part of it had found its way into the prepared pan. some of it was currently drying in yuri’s hair. most of it seemed to have ended up on dimitri’s face. the rest was currently turning into the kitchen’s new wallpaper. if they ever needed new cooks, he made a mental note to apply neither of them.

& yet they were grinning like boys at the mess they made. & when yuri scooped a bit of batter off dimitri’s cheek & when he flushed light red at the gentle touch, maybe they had earned this moment for themselves. 

& when dimitri’s tongue darted out to lick the batter off yuri’s fingers   (   something he would never do, something that would be the cause of many more sleepless hours   )   & his grin widened just a tad at the face his companion made.
