I have had so many false starts in my life. I start something with passion and enthusiasm and overtime it fizzles. From sports, to hobbies, jobs and business. It’s amazing what you can become acclimatized to and eventually lose interest in. I think that’s why they say motivation doesn’t last forever, even will power can only last for so long against an opposing force. The best tricks I have learned is first to find something you have felt passionate about for longer than 1 year. We have all been swept away in the emotions of the moment, but its what happens after you’ve been doing it for an extended amount of time that is a true test of love.
The next tip I found is to create habits, even what seems like the greatest thing in world will eventually lose its luster. For example, I have always enjoyed going to the movies, but if I am sick or have already sat most of a day, I don’t even want to go to that. However, If you create habits, that you do no matter what the conditions: rain, shine, day, night, sick, healthy, then you have a chance of succeeding.
My last tip for this article is to find a way to hold yourself accountable. Find an accountability partner, blast what your doing on social media, so that you have to not only admit to yourself your have chosen to quit, but others as well. This keeps me on the path I have deemed worth my time. The biggest commitment is to have something on the line, if it’s a purchase than you have money on the line, if it’s time intensive then you have all that time wasted if you quit. The key to avoiding false starts is to keep moving forward. Don’t quit.
