Cloud clenched his fist as his side, his other hand on his sword handle, though he had no intentions of drawing it. It was more for comfort than anything. And patience. He needed a lot of it in this moment.

He let out a aggravated sigh as he settled his gaze on her. But it wasn't really aggravation. But worry and fear that he masked under it all. He feared her getting hurt trying to defend him, when it should be him defending her.

"Just this once will you just do as I ask you? Please." He let go of his sword handle to place both of his hands on her shoulders. It was strange looking into a grown woman's eyes when he always knew her as a little girl.

"I can't let you get hurt. You're too important to too many people." Plus, he's add mentally, Barret would kick my ass into oblivion if I let anything happen to you. But he didn't say that out loud. Instead he frowned at her sternly.

"I can handle this. I need you to stay back out of harms way. If you don't, I will chain you down and make you stay back."

At the young age of seven, Sephiroth didn't really understand what was happening around him or to him. All he really knew was that this has been the best several months of his life. No one had ever been so nice to him or cared about him at all.

And now... Marlene was leaving.

Overwhelmed with his emotions and not sure what else to do, he flung his arms around her waist and buried his face against her stomach as tears started to well in his eyes. It still felt strange to allow himself to be so emotional, even more so to let himself give into the urge to touch another.

But Marlene had been nothing but kind to him.

Sniffling, he lifted his head to look up at her. He knew it would be useless to ask her to stay, but that didn't ease the ache in his heart.

"be careful," nero says, his eyes not on the girl but on the documents in front of him. one long, iron wing stretched out for her to examine - the bladed 'feathers' turned inward to prevent her from slicing her delicate fingers on their edge.

it looks like steel. like it should be cold and unfeeling, unattached. but nero shifts ever so slightly as her fingers make contact, it flexes. every bit a part of him as the flesh and blood hands turning the page of the dossier.

the limb flexes and lowers further for her examination. it's warm to the touch, as under the layers of metal there are veins and nerves and he feels every inch.
