It has taken me a long time to finally visit Kathleen Kennedy’s grave, despite it only being about a 20 minute drive from home. I am currently writing a post about Kick for my blog with more information about her but in short. Kathleen ‘Kick’ Kennedy was the fourth Kennedy child. She married William Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington (Billy Hartington) heir to Chatsworth despite her parents disapproval (the Kennedy’s were strict Catholics). The only member of Kick’s family to attend the wedding was her older brother, Joe Junior. Billy sadly died in Belgium during WWII. Kick later became involved with the Peter, the 8th Earl Fitzwilliam (of Wentworth Woodhouse), who was already married but in the process of divorcing his wife. Once again, Rose Kennedy (Kick’s mother) strongly opposed and said she would be cut off financially if she married Lord Fitzwilliam. On the 13th of May 1948, Kick and Peter were travelling to the South of France. Their plane stoped to re-fuel in Paris, bad weather was approaching and the pilot warned the pair they had to be in the air before the storm hit. Kick and Peter were away for hours and returned later than expected. The pilot advised it was not safe to fly but Peter insisted. The small plane flew right into the storm, causing the plane to crash near Plateau du Coiron. Joe Kennedy Senior was the only family member to attend the funeral, arranged by the Cavendishes. It is said that Kick was Joe’s favourite child and she was also very similar to her brother Jack in personality. Rose Kennedy refused to attend Kick’s memorial service due to having routine medical tests. #kickkennedy #kickkennedycavendish #famousgraves #edensor #derbyshire #chatsworth #peakdistrict #kathleenkennedy #kathleenkickkennedy #kennedys #gravesites #stpeterschurch #kennedyfamily #americanhistory (at St Peter's Church, Edensor) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNwmkK7sMtV/?igshid=1q8j0kcuvmxcy
