It feels very weird to see people call the og-atla-show absolutly perfect and pretend it is the height of everything humans have ever created and has absolutly no faults, especially in comparison to natla. Because it‘s not. It‘s a very good show and it does a lot of things well, but it has a ton of issues. And refusing to acknowledge them isn‘t great.
A incomplete list of problems the show has: -Iroh -especially in season 1- is often really creepy, especially the whole stuff with June -The handlung of Azula and her mental illness is atrocious -Irohs dark past and the whole siege of Ba Sing Se is handled horribly -Sokkas sexism-arc is mostly played for laughs, especially him wearing make-up and a dress. Also it‘s very „don‘t be mean to girls because they could kick your ass, not because you shouldn‘t be sexist.“ -The genocides are handled fine at best and feel very cleaned up (understandable, because it‘s a kids show) (planning to do a longer write up about that soon) -The ending with the energybending and the lion turtles is horribly rushed. -Yue becoming the moon and her relationship with Sokka also feels pretty rushed and a lot of it is focused on Sokka beeing sad. -Subplots are started and not properlly finished. Tophs parents immediatly come to mind. -The cliffhanger of Ozai saying Ursa is still alive despite there beeing zero evidence that she actually is (I know the comics exist and I have no desire to read them) -It‘s totally fine to commit warcrimes if you are a lovable grandpa that makes really good tea/sad music plays whenever people talk about you. -The portrayel of Kataras parentification and it beeing shown as okay -Generally the treatment of Katara and her often beeing the butt of the joke because she is too much of a mom to the other characters -The treatment of Jet and Hama as horrible villains for *checks notes* not just figthing against the firenation with sunshine and rainbows. Yes, obviously hurting innocent people isn‘t great but I do not like them beeing thrown into a category with Sozin and Ozai and the likes.
These are just my thoughts and my rambelings of course. If you like atla -and I do too, it‘s a great show- that is great, just pretending it has zero issues is a bit of a problem in my humble opinion.
