Me: Sees character headconon I REALLY disagree with.
Also me: Scrolls past and ignores it. I may disagree but that other fan is happy with their terrible headcanon and who am I to try to take that away from them?
How to vent about this without being too serious..? 🤔
I've noticed some double standards between different fandoms over Canon material vs extra content.
Sometimes fan are chill about it and accept every ounce of non-canon material and incorporate it with Canon hc's in some very clever ways. Or just be silly with it, but respectful nonetheless.
Other times, I've witnessed fan spaces get so heated about what's "canon and true and THAT DOESN'T COUNT-" that it becomes very upsetting. You're putting down other fans enjoying the extra content just because they want to include it to canon?
AND YES. WHILE NOT /ALWAYS/ CANONICAL, IT IS //OFFICIAL. CONTENT!//
In general it's rude to disparage other fans from what they enjoy out of the source material or otherwise. But it's so confusing seeing clashes like this. It makes those fan spaces feel entitled and stuck up, even if I can enjoy the media. It can be ignored or avoided to a degree but you'll always have this fear about your opinions being judged or having the fun sucked out of a harmless idea.
Again, not all fandoms do this. I've only noticed it so far with like...1-2. One in particular is HEAVY with it. The other seems mostly chill but I've still come across the darker threads just from people fighting other fans on canon alternate universes.
Oh well.
Please don't take this post TOO seriously I just want to put it out there 😞🫠
Damn, you can't even daydream about banging fictional men in peace without a thesis post over how they would really preform in bed.
TBH, out of all the discourse in this fandom; the debate over fictional men being good in bed or not, is a none issue. It is subjective, These men are not real. If you are so bothered over how realistic or unrealistic another player's fantasies are because it doesn't line up with your headcanon; go touch grass. We are not advanced enough in society for Infold to make android life version of these characters to test their bedroom knowledge. It's a subjective opinion that cannot be proven; body count does not equal being good in bed, that is misinformation.
I know this is wrong, but seeing fandom fighting over the men in LADS as if they are real boyfriends in CN is WILD. It started as a Sylus vs. Zayne thing and grew into an open PVP so all the LADS men are catching hands.
It's not okay by any means; it is never okay to harass anyone over a fav... but it's like watching a fandom version of Smash bros.
So, I made the mistake of trying to find people who are arguing and fighting in the Carmilla fandom. Why? Well, there is really no need for you all to know. I’m just pissed off and wanted to see what other people were ranting about so I could rant too and let off some steam. Anyways, I found myself on the Monster Carmilla tag, which is really fun for the first few scrolls, but then as you get further down you’ll see a bunch of people arguing that Carmilla isn’t a monster and that Laura is an ass for calling her that.
First off, what is Carmilla? *Gasp* She’s a vampire! She’s no Twilight vampire either. She’s a real vampire. Like, I’m going to drink human blood and kill people cause I feel like it kind of vampire. If that isn’t the definition of a monster, then I don’t know what is. Sure, she’s got some redeeming qualities. What vampire doesn’t? She’s loyal and protective of the ones she loves. But she’s still a vampire.
Second, WHO IN THERE RIGHT MIND WOULD SAY A VAMPIRE ISN’T A MONSTER!? Like, I’m sorry, screw Twilight. Those are not vampires, those are kittens compared to Carmilla. Did we forget that she killed her mother and the ghost/spirit/thing in the christmas episode? Sure they were no where near being innocent people, but she still killed them. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of people she probably killed before the invention of a blood bank, which I doubt she uses. VAMPIRE = MONSTER! That’s like saying that a bear that was raised in captivity isn’t a wild animal.
Third, has she shown any remorse for killing? No. Plus, have we forgotten that she tried to kill Danny? Perhaps that was self defense, but come on, a vampire vs a human. She could have easily disarmed her and tossed her out the window rather than immediately go for her throat.
Alright, I’m done ranting. If anyone wants to challenge my argument, by all means, message me. I’d be happy to debate. Just be polite about it. Thank you.
Internal fandom drama and beef is so boring just watching at the sidelines. Ya aint shit until ya start making diss tracks agaisnt one another, calling each other out on Twitter and Istragram and shooting at and fighting one another over a "controversial" image or post. Step up your game!
