Something that keeps my Azulaang ass up at night is how weird the language is around these two when ppl discuss what they "deserve". The specific takes that I'm talking about are "Azula doesn't deserve to be redeemed" and "Aang doesn't deserve what he gets in the finale"
The eternal truth about fandoms that goes like "fans treat fictional characters as real life people and real life people as fictional characters" plays a key role in this take, cuz tell me how the word "deserve" manages to sneak into these convos. We are NOT judges and these characters didn't actually commit any crimes, why the fuck do you speak as if they did???
The only way "deserve" can be an appropiate word is if we talk about the audience. We fans DESERVE to witness a different redemption story with Azula(shes fundamentally different from zuzu so is her journey) We fans DESERVE to witness a more fitting story of Aang the character.
Characters exist to further the plot and to examine the themes. Treat them as what they are, and do it consistently.
