Day 4: What are the origins of your penname/username?
Okay, so, this is a fun one 😃 I’ve had the same main username online since 2004, when I created an account as enchantedsleeper on Gaia Online. The only times I don’t tend to use it are when it’s above the character limits (a lot of sites limit usernames to 15 characters, which is just ONE character more than my username. I’m enchantedsleepr on Pinterest and enchantdsleeper on Twitter as a result, but I don’t really like mangling my penname).
I love hearing the stories behind people’s online handles, so in my forum days I made a bit of a habit of asking people about theirs. Mine is taken from a character in a sort-of-fannish (in that it was very much anime fanfic lite) original story I serialised on Quizilla when I was a teenager, who was known as The Enchanted Sleeper. His whole ~thing was that he would appear during certain periods throughout history, asleep, and then wake up at a crucial moment to do or help with ~something, and then he would disappear to rematerialise in another time period. Sort of like a time travelling Sleeping Beauty? Sleeping Beauty meets Doctor Who?
If you’re wondering where on earth I got this idea, I haven’t the foggiest, but it was a fun idea and I used enchantedsleeper (all lowercase, one word; it bothers me when websites will capitalise it) as my handle on a whole array of forums websites as well as Fanfiction.net when I signed up in 2005. I wasn’t able to grab it on LiveJournal, unfortunately, but I never used LJ much for publishing anyway.
My Tumblr handle, incidentally, is one that I only have here, but I like it a lot! I came up with it when I was brimming with newfound obsession for Avengers fandom and was having a lot of Feelings, so, “If feels could kill...” felt appropriate 😆 I also have it as a tag, though I haven’t used it in a while xD
