And now for some fandom heresy:

There's a pretty obvious elephant in the room in ATLA discourse whenever people treat the Fire Nation and its people as white. They are, after all, industrialized colonizers who started the war with a wholesale act of genocide for a final solution to the Air Nomad problem. The way the writers go out of their way to show they don't deserve credit for thinking things through deeply means that one can't treat this as an intentional mirror, especially when the setting's evolved into the glorified soap opera of the Fire Nation Royal Family.

BUT insofar as it is 'white' this is exactly why people say that, so it's worth stating bluntly.

I've realized the reason I fell off watching The Owl House two thirds into Season 1 was part The Vibes And Aesthetic being made for a very different kind of person and the fact that I Was Not Very Interested in Eda. Like she didn't bore me, but I didn't develop the affection for her she engenders in Seemingly Literally Everyone Else and so anything involving her just felt like Stuff Happening instead of like. An important aspect of the show being fleshed out, which is what was actually happening.

And then I decided 'fuck it, I'll watch the Season 3 premiere without having seen anything past episode 10' and fell so deep in love with these children and Luz's mom and that was how I figured out that I am a heretic who does not find Eda or the boiling isles as a location very interesting.
