This song is absolutely stunning and, I think, the lyrics are absolutely perfect for Turgon.

The first two stanzas are him at the the Mereth Aderthas, the last four are the fall of Gondolin.

What the fandom purity crew does not realise is that truly despicable people do not read beyond the text and are unwilling to see themselves in any other light but the one that presents them as heroes. 

When I was a kid in Rome the Tolkien fandom was plagued by the worst neo-fascists (people according to whom you could not understand Tolkien unless you accepted and subscribed to his Christianity and several other ideas he never truly held).  Well, none of them was “edgelordy”, their favourite character. The one they quoted in their slogans? Their “fave” they recognised themselves in? Faramir. 

Which, in my opinion, aside from showing how dismal their reading comprehension was, also showed that the relationship between art and our ideals is more complex than “you like and see the reasons of someone, thus THIS must be your sociopolitical idea”.

Not to mention the irony of seeing the aggressive “you must be Catholic/like organised religion” repeated by both them and some elements that want me to believe the horseshoe theorem does not apply to their brand of “leftism”.
