Hanahaki is romantic. It’s alloromantic. It’s about unrequited love. It was first used in shojou manga.
From Wikipedia:
Hanahaki diease (Japanese: 花吐き病, Hepburn: Hanahaki-byō; lit. flower-vomiting disease)[1] is a fictional disease characterized by the growth of flowers in the body as a result of unrequited love. This trope originated in shōjo manga and has become a recurring theme in fan labor such as fan fiction, visual art, poetry, and cosplay.
(It wont let me link it but do look kt up if you doubt me)
It’s fine to have your own spin on it, from different reasons for flowers to different flower types and so on. Change the trope as you as fit! But remember your origins, Simba.
I find it really curious which stories generate fandoms and which don’t. And I wonder, do shows get boosts from previous fandom favourites?
Take the Librarians with 2,300 on AO3 stories - is this in part thanks to Christian Kane (Leverage, Angel) and Noah Wyle (ER)?
And Broadchurch with nearly 1900 stories - how much crossover is there with the David Tennant/Doctor Who fanficcers? What about Penny Dreadful, at 700 stories - is that built from Doctor Who/Billie Piper fans too?
Maybe the huge success of Supergirl (31,000 stories) is in part thanks to the casting of Katie McGrath, and the established core of ready-and-waiting Merlin fans? She’s certainly one half of the most popular ship.
So do existing fans follow actors to a new show, then create a new fandom? The kind of people likely to follow an actor are perhaps simply also the kind of people more likely to engage in fannish activities. Perhaps they get the ball rolling, and once established a fandom is better able to attract and support itself on it’s own grounds.
But then you get something like Medici, which only has about 350 stories (not awful, but not a huge amount) despite starring both Bradley James (Merlin) and Daniel Sharman (Teen Wolf) - both huge fandom shows - in addition to Richard Madden (Bodyguard, Game of Thrones, Cinderella). Maybe it would have none at all if other actors had been cast. Maybe it’s all completely unrelated and I’m talking nonsense.
If anyone has any research I’d be interested to see.
Oh hell xD That’s another long one. Kinda weird and off-side too. I blame my Dad’s old friend. After that it’s all me xD
So one of my Dad’s friends (whose name I cannot remember off hand) used to come by with games. Dad still does this but it’s mostly computer stuff nowadays and I’m not there to get sucked into another franchise THANK GOD!
We had a PS1 at the time and this friend brought along this interesting looking box called “Final Fantasy IX” and I was like “ooooo pretty!”. Dad was playing it at the time (I believe Zidane was called “Elric” in his file) so at first I just sorta watched him play. Then eventually I was like “hey how long is this game here? can I try too?” This was probably in 2001 or 2002? Got into this fandom LATE but not PS2 late.
Anyway, I was allowed to try ‘cause the friend was leaving it at our place for who knows how long. My sister was watching me play (and clearly getting addicted too) and I think we got to Disc 3 before we couldn’t play it anymore ‘cause it was gone. I had finished with Zidane’s existential crisis in Pandemonium (Zidane’s name was Ryan for me) and let me tell you holy shit did I ever want that music! But I didn’t know what to search for online or anything and I only had the vague beat of You’re Not Alone! in my head. The closest thing I found was not close at all. This song is my reminder that I clearly don’t have a good memory music-wise xD
I can’t remember when, but eventually I think they decided that we needed to own the game. Either because I whined about it a lot or because we all wanted to see the end of it xD Funny part was that both my Dad and my sister had bought me a copy of it for Christmas ‘cause no one knew what the other had bought. Eventually my sister just kept her copy for herself and we were finally able to beat the game.
Ish. The first time, it froze on me after the fight with Necron. I was so peeved at it for that because dammit Trance Kuja was a bitch to kill and then there was that damn Deus Ex Machina right after WITH NO SAVE IN THE MIDDLE!
So yeah… FF9 was my first Final Fantasy. Then we continued to X and then jumped back to the older ones but I am totes to blame for my own obsession in this case!
Fun fact: I could tell Kuja was a dude from the get-go for some weird reason. I don’t know why, but he didn’t fool me! He was also my first video game villain crush <3 (Still is, I love my bby!)
Shiiiii- Do I remember who’s fault that was? XD I think that might have been Mel's. Or yours.
Someone said to me “hey download this so that we can play together!” and I said “okay”. It evolved from there. As for when… Well, according to the LoL wiki Draven and Darius came out in 2012 and I know that they were out by the time I joined League. I think Lulu was recently released (fuck if I remember all this xD) but I know that she was my first champ!
Certain champions have whole other stories though *cough*Draven*cough*
I blame that on Roe and Smash. Yup. Long story under the cut that sort of gives the origins of my Smash Bros. fandom inclusion ‘cause they go hand in hand!
So back in… 2007-ish(?) when Brawl was announced, I was in college with Roe and when you’re a recluse who’s found their soul mate you do like any other recluse with a soul mate and you spend any time you can with them. That was us in college. Yup.
Anyway, we usually sat around talking about games and stuff with another friend (who was studying to be a cop) and somehow the convo drifted to “oooo new smash game coming out soon!” while I sat there going “huh?” for about 5 minutes while they hoped for certain people to be in there (Roy mostly, if I recall correctly).
I eventually asked Roe “what’s Smash?” and I swear to god the look she gave me was fucking priceless xD Like an “are you fucking kidding me?” combined with “I don’t think I know you anymore” but mixed enough to be neither of those extremes. Eventually she dragged me to her place since she had her Game Cube there along with Melee! She sits me down and we’re about to do a basic 4-person Smash and she suggested Marth to me because she knows my type and she figured I’d like him. She was right.
But playing him made me ask “so where is he from?” but all Roe could tell me was the name of the game. So, since we started RPing them, I went to look Marth up and voila, there we are with the FE fandom!
To be honest, the first FE I played was Roy’s on an emulator and I wasn’t doing that great. Still not, to be honest. I think I’m stuck (but at least Chad and Marcus aren’t dying!…. now it’s Lance and Alan ;; *hugs the red and green babies*). And really, FE is not really my type of game since me + strategy = everybody dead in no time (but there was that one time I won a game of Risk… it was luck).
But then… HOLY SHIT SHADOW DRAGON IN ENGLISH! IT’S A MARTH GAME! BETTER PRE-ORDER THE SHIT OUTTA THAT! …Which totally did happen. I even got the neat cell art thing that came with pre-orders! It’s a testament to how much I wanted the game that I will probably never finish. Why? Because perma-death sucks and I will not be sacrificing Jagen in that prologue thing hell no. I was considering a STRATEGY GUIDE but then I remembered that it might not work out that well 8I
Then Awakening was announced. During the floaty rumours about the game a certain someone was thought to be a certain blue-haired Prince. I bit that line at first. But even I started to question why Marth needed a mask or why it was being written as “Marth”. I eventually started to make a frowny face and figured that “okay, it’s an FE game but I don’t think I need to pre-order it. I’ll get it whenever.” BAD IDEA! ‘Cause then I played the demo and I was like “OMG YOU CAN GET RID OF PERMA-DEATH! I CAN’T MURDER MY TEAM! THERE IS A GOD!” so I really REALLY wanted the game!
…We couldn’t find it and so I spent 200$ on a very pretty 3DS that even came with the little art book teaser. Now Awakening and the countless hours I’ve spent on it so far are always there, staring me in the face.
According to my 3DS Activity Log I’ve got 216:59 hours worth of play time for Awakening. It’s in 2nd place for play time and I technically haven’t done everything I wanted to on it… For what it’s worth, I’ve logged a whole whopping 0:48 worth of time on Shadow Dragon xD
So that’s my FE fandom origins in all their glory.
uhhh good question anon. when i was in, like, fourth or fifth grade, my childhood best friend and her younger brother (who'd moved to shanghai) came back to visit us in dallas for a week over the summer and we marathoned fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood in like five days, and then she introduced me to fanfiction.net. so the first shitty fanfic i wrote was of the ed/winry variety, i'm pretty sure?
well, actually, if you want to get technical about it, i outlined embarrassing self-insert fanfiction of myself in the harry potter universe as a young child, LOL WOW i almost forgot about that. this was probably sometime in the 3rd grade. so it was a mix of fma and hp and then in middle school i started reading bleach and the rest was history~*~
from circa christmas 2008 to maybe spring 2010 i was fucking mired in kpop fandom, nonnie
i was really into shinee and kpop fan forums so i was on shineee.net for months after my irl friend showed me replay and eventually became a global moderator there, and then like february 2009 or something a couple of friends i'd made from SFI and i got together and decided to make a big bang forum since the only one that was around was dead as fuck. i think i'm still an admin at bbvip but i don't do much there anymore because in like october 2009 i got a livejournal (hey, my lj handle's ~gdgdbaby which should clue you in somewhat) and started writing rpf for yge! tumblr stole me from lj which stole me from kpop forums, lolll.
soooo big bang are my boys and 2ne1 are my girls and gd and cl are my respective favorites and top is hot as fuck and i love to hate on seungri and it's ridic that minji has so much fucking stage presence for a 17 year old, because, what, the group debuted when she was 15? jeeeeeesus.
