Fandom Problem #12,744:
I feel crazy everytime I see pro & anti ship discourse because I existed on the side of the internet where the most antis did was just block and move on, but it was the pro-shippers who would harrass us. I'm no longer an anti because I outgrew caring about what people do on the internet, but basically we just talked amongst ourselves and had lists for blocking & then would warn people of others who disregarded the "block, don't harrass" part of it.
I'm not going to say these were the "true" antis because I've dealt with the kind most of you have dealt with and, uh, yeah these immflamatory guys are far more prevalent.
Sometimes I just see stuff like "antis are pro harrassment" (the group I was in wasn't), "antis don't read leftist theory, they base their morals off of puratinism" (a lot of us were interested in marx's idea on how art & media can reinforce & even warp cultural and economic standards in society!), or "antis are pro censorship" (we were all anti-cop and didn't want the government to have any control on what you can wrote -- we just wanted misogyny, transphobia, misinformation, being shared through fanfiction to be addressed within fandom. We wanted to be able to say "hey here are some stereotypes you should avoid when writing black characters" without being told we're censoring or ruining the mood!).
But I gotta remember that the group I was in was surprisingly niche amongst antis who just existed because they wanted to yell at people.
