Because thats how we write it in Dutch. Its probably writen by a person that confused the two because how similar the Dutch and Engels versions are. I thought bad-mouthing people based on their orientation regardless of how marginalized they are is like the barest minimum you can do as a human being. It scares me that people are so ready to chuck their moral out their door because some groups just happened to fall into a demographic that benefits from having more representation or something. I'm ace. I'm about as marginalized as orientations get. I would never badmouth anyone for having more representation than me, nor put them down and call their own allo, gay, other material "slop". OP of problem #14368: I'll admit when I saw this posted my first thought was "oh no, here we go", cause after one of the problems posted a few days ago (by someone else, not me, but about a similar topic) and the absolute shitstorm that went up in the comments and replies of that one, I was bracing myself for the same thing happening here. But I'm honestly glad to see that's not been the case so far. Even the people who disagreed with my take or use of words ended up getting into very interesting and actually civil discussions with other commenters. It's nice to see people can communicate even after their initial kneejerk negative reactions, when someone actually talks to them out of genuine intent to share other perspectives rather than just spouting insults or being snarky and dismissive. And yes I'll admit this much: this whole problem is probably one that's only really apparent when you spend too much time online and among specific circles of fandom. I still think most fandoms in general have an irrational (but understandable) aversion to het ships, as I see people in non-fandom-specific poll blogs freely and even proudly claim to hate all het ships on principle or express disgust at straight people existing in fandom, BUT my personal experiences were mostly based on a certain circle in my fandom that I already knew I didn't agree with and disliked, and I've since blocked the users of that circle and avoided going near them since I sent this submission. It has made me a bit lonelier, as it's harder to find people in the fandom who are more chill about my opinions and ships and are also actually active, but it's definitely been better for my peace of mind and my enjoyment of the media.

Op here, mostly replying to anon 1, but calm down man. Admittedly, I shouldn't have brought up mpreg at the end there (did so in a jokey way since I hang out primarily in the BL side of fandoms, and that's where I see kid OCs). Genes and mpreg are obviously not the same, I guess I shouldn't have put them side by side like this, as it really makes it sound like they are on the same lvl of "realness" (dunno how to word it). But I still stand on my original point.

I don't care that "genes are really fucking straightforward", people can still have fun and fuck around with character design without paying attention to how it actually works in real life. As I mentioned, you do you if you REALLY hate people not portraying it realistically, everyone has their own taste. But it doesn't mean you should complain about it to artists either and tell them they should never mix and match the couple's eyes/hair colours because "that's not how it works".

And if someone keeps saying no one should ever do it the unrealistic way, then yeah, they are the fun police in my eyes.

I love how encouraging all the comments and reblogs are but tbh there’s valid reasons why people don’t want to create in these situations and it can feel like those reasons are being dismissed when we try to share them and are repeatedly ignored by people who are trying to be overly positive instead of actually listening. For years I tried to follow the two cakes things and guess what? Nobody gave two shits about my work even if I was the first one to post the idea people just ignored me because I wasn’t good enough for them to care. Example: I can’t draw they can, people don’t pay that much attention (or any attention) to posts without that so one day I just stopped posting because no matter how hard I worked on my cake it would just get shoved off the potluck table for a more eye catching one. No matter how many cakes I make or how how hard I work on them even if I was the first or only person to bring that kind of cake it doesn’t matter. Being positive and encouraging is so awesome but please actually acknowledge why some of us don’t want to bake anymore before it becomes inconsiderate and dismissive.

OP here. Thanks for saying this anon. This is pretty much how I feel when it comes to the two cakes metaphor. There was a time in real life where I actually did bring a cake I'd made myself - and baking isn't a hobby of mine but I wanted to bring something different - to school for a class lunch, and of course there were several other desserts and cakes too. Now I'm not judging anyone's choices, I would've gone chosen the clearly better made cakes over mine too and no one was obligated to eat from everything that was brought, but let me tell you I still felt humiliated when at the end of the day we were taking home our leftovers and literally not a single piece had been taken out of the cake I'd brought. And that was just something I'd done because I kind of felt I had to, not wanting to eat from the rest of the class's food without bringing something myself. But I did go out of my way to do something I wouldn't normally and I'd felt proud of my meager achievement of making a cake myself, right up until I got the proof that it wasn't "good enough". So you can imagine how much worse it feels to put actual passion and care and time and effort into something I love doing only to get zero acknowledgement for it, especially to then see someone else with the same idea get all the praise for their creativity when the only thing separating them and me is skill level. Yes I want to do it for myself, but if a better version already exists that was shared with everyone then I could just enjoy that instead. "Do it shitty" yeah well no one wants shitty, including me. Maybe if I really was the only one to come up with the idea and it wouldn't exist otherwise, yeah I wouldn't mind doing my shitty version, but if a nicer one is already out there, why set myself up for disappointment?

Idc how natural it is, pregnancy is body horror, especially forced pregnancy, and I WILL tag it as such. There's no difference between a parasite and a fetus beyond potential emotional attachment and potential to become a baby after a birth and a real person once personality and non-instinctual desires and dislikes begin to develop, and both being in your body, permanently changing and disfiguring it, highjacking and stealing your resources even if means deprivating you of them and affecting your health (teeth lost/bone decay, hair loss, vision loss, etc), and putting you through bloody torture to get it out is body horror like no other. I don't care if you have kink for pregnancy, if you have had a pregnancy and was fine with the experience, it still is a deeply horrifying state of objectification and dehumanizing into a vessel unable to control the digusting thing invading your body without outside intervention or risking your own life to finally expel it. I would kill myself if I ever got pregnant and couldn't immediately abort the beast, that's how much it terrifies me. It being natural doesn't make it any less horrific. Since we're getting all personal here, let me tell you how I had cancer of the uterus, the feeling of being rejected by your own body, to have your body eat you alive, about the months of chemo i had to endure, far longer than any pregnancy would be. The constant nausea, the weight loss, the loss of hair, the total and complete lack of energy. Where it finally reached a point where a hysterectomy was my only chice. At 23. I will never get pregnant. I will never have children of my own. That choice was taken away from me. And despite not having a uterus, I'm still under the threat of developing cancer somewhere else. Against my will. If i had to choose between cancer or being pregnant, I'd choose to be pregnant. Don't you fucking dare refer to pregnancy as cancer. I don't know, but a while back, there was a lot of characters drawn where living flowers had sprouted from their mouths to the point of covering their mouths completely, it was usually depicted as some peaceful thing but it was fucked up if you thought about how those flowers worked and where they rooted and if the characters could even talk or breathe, and if there were also flowers going all the way down their throats (fhfjkfkfkdl nope nope). It wasn't really a face-value "illness" or "gross-out" type thing but it still read as body horror.

I also just think it's important for people to realize that just because a character isn't physically like you - or isn't from the same country or is a different gender or a different sexuality or even a different religion - it doesn't make it impossible for you to empathize with them or relate to their struggles. I mean at the end of the day we're all human beings, we all feel the same things and share those feelings in our stories, even if our experiences are different. I never had a single character from my culture to look up to growing up and yet I never once lamented that fact or wondered why that was. It was only later that I found out the less than flattering reasons for why my people weren't represented or often represented in a negative light, but that doesn't stop me from being able to relate to the emotions that characters are shown to feel, whether they're white or black or what have you. This is why I get bad vibes from people who headcanon everything about themselves onto their favorite characters; to me it just feels like that person lacks empathy for anyone different to themselves (which is usually evidenced by how they react to people with different headcanons to them, especially if they try to justify it with morality).

Fandom really went downhill when everyone started assuming that all fiction should be, and is, as close to a 1:1 representation of its viewers or creators as possible. Everyone is self-insertion, and must be self-insertion. "You are what you eat", except this time, with fictional dolls. It seems like such a shitty way to engage with media. In that regard, it's no wonder people are so anal retentive about "consuming morally pure media" now. It makes me wonder what the eventual breaking point and crash will look like, and if it will be dispersed among individuals, or more of a collective cringe. I was hoping there would be one a few years ago with "feelings yakuza", but here we are.

Is it just me, or did things start getting worse when folks started saying "yumeshipper" instead of "selfshipper"? I don't think the terminology itself is to blame, it's just a little weird that the term happened to pop up around the same time that I started seeing more people complaining about toxic people in the community, and I absolutely cannot come up with any logical explanation on why.
