sure, canon's cool and all, but have you considered team ro au where sasuke is DEAD CONVINCED that Weasel is shisui and has this absolute vendetta against Weasel because he thinks Weasel's taking all his brother's time?

itachi is devastated, but can't say anything because, y'know, anbu secrets. accepts the kicks to his shins as punishment for being a bad brother.

shisui thinks this is the funniest fucking thing he's ever heard and absolutely does nothing to discourage sasuke. actively encourages it sometimes with comments like 'well, you've never seen Weasle and me in the same place....' and 'well, i am very good at clones. there'd be nothing stopping me from just making a clone in civilian clothes to throw you off....'

kakashi and tenzo spend way too much time trying to figure out how sasuke hasnt figured it out yet, considering kakashi&tenzo constantly walk around in full anbu gear without their masks. like, sure, itachi's good about secrecy and rules, but the three spend a decent amount of time together outside of missions, and kakashi isn't exactly, y'know, subtle. and sure, shisui frequently tags along cause where there's one bird boy, there's usually the other. BUT C'MON, KID!! itachi, your little brother is not built for recon missions. (he knows. gods, he knows....)

sasori is, like, 18 years older than kank. he left the village at, what? 15? give or take?? that means all the puppets kank uses are older than him. the initial technology, the techniques. all of that was left before kank was even born.

where did he get those? has anyone been using them? did chiyo just throw them in a closet somewhere because Feelings(tm)??? are they part of regular puppeteer training?? do they all come with an extra guard dog to make sure the new user doesn't go rogue too??

misc. remedial squad headcanons pt. 1

-camie is, initially, the only one that can drive. obviously. she is the oldest.

-owns a custom convertible because inasa is a Very Large Boy(tm) and she wants to make sure her bestie is comfy, y'know???

-katsuki picks up at some point that shoto likes riding around with the gang, mostly as a way to avoid going home, and fucking dammit, he's getting soft. katsuki is the next to get his license. says it's because it's practical for hero work. camie sees right through him.

-shoto absolutely CAN dress himself, but simply does not. he enjoys the simple freedom of picking clothes he likes, even if they don't match.

-inasa has a completely reasonable sense of fashion, except for his Very Loud graphic print tees.

-katsuki is miserable the entire time, please, save him. can he not pick a single friend with decent fashion.

-camie likes fruity gums and fruity lip gloss and fruity perfumes.

-will ONLY offer katsuki cinnamon hard candies when he asks for a piece of gum. she doesn't even like them, for fucks sake woman.

-shoto is so smitten with the tiny soda bottle shaped chapstick camie gives him. so smitten. the squad buys him every dorky little novelty chapstick they see and he hooks them onto his backpack and wallet and jacket zippers and....

-inasa WILL stop to pet every dog they see. every single one. this simply encourages shoto to stop for every cat they see. (they learn to leave an extra hour early for everything. they're still late 80% of the time)

okay. picture your high school gym.

now. imagine doing laps.

imagine your gym teacher has some garbage ass playlist that is not anything you would use for a workout playlist.

imagine you are just trying to mentally remove yourself from this hellscape and just get through your laps.

except you're stuck with this meathead that is twice your height and twice your size and just. jock incarnate. and you cannot outpace him, he just lengthens his strides (curse him and his stupidly long legs). because he wants to talk with you. make friends. be all chummy and bros and whatever. except he cant keep up a conversation because he's too busy sobbing the lyrics to Total Eclipse of the Heart. full on sobbing. his face is all wet and red and blotchy and his voice keeps cracking on that line about powder kegs.

you cannot drop your pace, because a) he'd follow you and b) it'd put you too close to your arch-nemesis (your partner for chem labs who is way too competent to be that fucking useless) and the airhead upperclassman from stage crew. who's not actually an airhead and she's downright dangerous with a needle&bobbin and can absolutely hold her own with the power tools. but it's the principle of the thing!! they're chatting! and you want so desperately for meathead to drop back with them because you just want to get these laps over with.

and then your gym teacher takes one look at your struggling and you watch him, actively watch him, queue sinéad o'connor as you pass by. direct eye contact and toothy grin and all.

that's it.

that's what remedial class looks like for remedial squad.

HELLO I AM BACK AGAIN TO REMIND YOU WE WERE ROBBED OF INO & GAARA BEING BESTIES IN THE GREENHOUSE!!!

give me delinquent gaara, with his face tattoo and his dozen of piercings (no, i will never let those go, thanks for asking) and his terrible pisspoot attitude, who gives the little old ladies that come into the yamanaka shop a fright, but ino will hype the fuck outta him. he is THE walking encyclopedia for every flower in that shop.

give me ino - brilliant, stunning, flawless goddess that she is - knowing every single person who comes into the shop by name and family tree, and gaara fumbling to keep up but by gosh, he's trying. he's just trying to social.

give me ino, gossip queen, talking shit about garbage customers and even worse garbage neighbors, while gaara makes little clay pots for all the plants that both will paint later while trying not to mix up their paint & drink cups.

give me gaara staring unflinchingly at some dickbag that came in trying to harass ino. he may be short, but he will not hesitate to fuck you up, buddy.

GIVE ME COZY SWEATERS AND STRING LIGHTS AND THE GENTLE BUMP OF THEIR SHOULDERS WHILE THEY SWAY TO SOFT MUSIC AS THEY ARRANGE FLOWERS FOR A BABY SHOWER. GIVE ME INO'S ROARING LAUGH AND GAARA'S QUIET CHUCKLE WITH DIRT SMEARED ACROSS THEIR CHEEKS.

au where instead of becoming a mass murderer with a growing kazekage collection, sasori just becomes the local cryptid. he still leaves the village at 15, but he only treks a week or so out, sets up a little hut in a ruin of an outpost that's long been removed from maps.

his reputation still grows. something dark, something dangerous. if you need a poison, if you need information. you make that trek and pray the stars are kind when they guide you. the desert is only your friend if it wants to be. more than one fool has gotten lost and turned around and ended up right back at suna's doorstep, disoriented and dehydrated. and that's if you survive the desert. those that do make it to his place don't necessarily get when they went for. (don't start a fight. seriously, don't. he's still looking to perfect his technique somehow...)

but for all the doom and gloom that surrounds him, the mystique and stories, if you actually get in the door he's kinda just this hunched little creature. he's got these dorky little glasses and perpetual bedhead and a smear of grease across his brow. the whole places stinks of sour herbs and smoke and turpentine. he is THE image of fairytale witch the elders like to use to scare children into behaving.

the man just wants to work on his art in peace. he appreciates the rare company, to bring in new supplies, new scrolls with rivers sealed away so that he can tend his garden, new seeds and sprouts and wood and metal.

even hidden away in the shifting dunes, he still has his reputation for puppetry. without the harsh stigma of being a missing nin (he's not missing, after all...) the students in the village all make a little pilgrimage out to find him from time to time. prove their worth and their rights as puppeteers. (he has no idea where this tradition came from but he will drag every single one of them for their shitty craftsmanship.)
