"You're not trying to figure out my weaknesses, right?" he teased with cocked brows, a hint of an amused smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he eyed Rico. He let out a soft 'tch' and spoke again after a moment, this time more genuinely. "We still have our enhanced senses - smell, sight, and hearing. We're also quick to heal and have superhuman strength and endurance, although those last two are less so in our human forms." Paul paused momentarily, then added, "We won't age as long as we're phasing, either, but that picks up again once we stop shifting."

Furrowing his brows, Jake met their gaze with a mix of caution and contemplation. There were a few moments of silence while he mulled over an answer, shrugging one shoulder slightly as he spoke. "By my partner, I assume you're referring to my imprint," he began, his voice a low rumble as he studied their expression. "Giving up some of my energy, huh?" Another brief pause before he continued, his tone carrying a subtle, underlying edge. "If it means protecting them, then I'll do whatever I need to — their life is worth more than that."

Paul's lip curled up at the mention of the cold ones, eyes flashing with a mix of suppressed anger and something more primal. There was a beat of silence before he spoke, his voice low and rough. "It's not like I have much of a choice, do I? Gotta follow the alpha's orders — even if we don't want to." Another brief silence settled between them before he seemed to contemplate something, a begrudging hint of acceptance and reluctant respect in his gaze. "Can't deny they've got strength, though — especially the big one."
