I am planning on cosplaying Fem!Captain America and I was wondering if you think it would be less money to make a spandex type suit or a retro style dress? Thank you so much I love your blog!
Honestly, it all depends on how expensive your fabric choices are. There will probable be less fabric used with spandex but if you are doing any detailing with another color fabric it will add to the price. Spandex can sometimes be a little bit more expensive than the types of fabrics you would use to make a dress.
The best thing to do is pick out the fabrics you would want to use if you did either project, figure out how much you would need of each, and then do a side by side price comparison. Don’t forget to include notions like zippers, thread, buttons, lining fabric, shoulder pads, and trim. Those thing may not seem like much but they really do add up and can be the deciding factor of which one costs more.
