Dear Pixel Berry,

Oh my love, how we’ve grown old together. We’re an old married couple at this point surely? The ones the kids point at and laugh at for being cringe. But quite frankly, I don’t care.

I remember being young. Rushing home from school on Friday afternoons to read the next chapter on that absolutely ancient iPhone 3, even back in those days. Plugging it into the 32 pin charger and being tethered to the wall since the battery life on it was no more than 15 minutes.

Do you remember being part of EA Games? The original High School Story and Cause of Death? Not being able to pay for each new chapter so just playing the free ones? The joy it brought to a little girl that was perhaps too nerdy for her own good? Or what about being a part of holding her together when she lost her dad? Being her friend when she went to college and needed something familiar? Helping her dream that this isn’t all the world could be?

I remember falling in love with a Cordonian prince turned king that taught me I deserve better from the men in my life. Traveling the world vicariously through Wanderlust. Learning to choose my own happiness over the world’s expectations as the Countess of Edgewater.

I remember and will always cherish those memories my dear. Thank you for being there and allowing me to have those experiences.

In a million playthroughs, I’d always choose you my dear.

Dear Hunger Games

Sweetheart, I can’t lie to you.

A big part of me resents that I fall deeper in love with you as time marches on.

If I could trade you for all the people that should still be with us, I would. Or healing for all the broken hearts and unnecessary suffering we inflict upon others.

Alas, the odds are not in our favor and the world can be deeply cruel and dark.

Yet in spite of that, we continue to choose hope and goodness. Even if we never see that world catching fire, we can spark the flame.

Thank you for being my dandelion in the snow. A reminder tomorrow can be kinder if we choose so.

Dear Project Hail Mary

As a cradle Catholic, I’m no stranger to praying for miracles. I've spent many nights repeating the prayer Hail Mary to our Blessed Lady for her intercession.

I’ve seen those prayers get answered in very visceral and immediate ways. Inexplicable except for divine intervention. 

But you remind me of the other ways I’ve seen prayers answered. Through the quiet choices people make to do good despite what it costs them. Hope that springs from a source deep inside when the world gives you no reason to believe tomorrow is possible. Convergence of so many factors that lead to the right people being in the right time and place to solve difficult problems.

Thank you for reminding me that sometimes, I’m called to participate in the grand scheme and be the answer to someone’s prayer. I know I don’t always live up to that calling, but I ask for forgiveness for my past failures and pray that I recognize those situations and accept it in the future

Oh my beloved star crossed love.

I stand at your grave, staring at the broken app I can’t bare to delete.

Loving you was so easy. As natural as breathing and light as sunshine. You came in and swept me off my feet before I knew what was happening.

It was almost scandalous how brief our courtship was before we ran off together.

So why was the universe so cruel as to break us apart so quickly? I’d barely gotten to spend time with you. There was so much more for us to experience together. You deserved it. As did I.
