Raywood, prompt number four for the hurt/comfort writing thing.
#4: “How long has it been since you’ve slept?”
“How long has it been since you’ve slept?”
Ray says as he stands, cross armed, next to Ryan on the couch. He stares at Ryan, as if daring him to say he’s fine. Which he clearly isn’t, if the dark circles only growing under his eyes mean anything.
“Uh... I don’t know,” Ryan says dismissively.
“Ryan,” Ray says firmly, glaring at him. “You need to sleep.”
“I will,” he says, but makes no move to get up.
Ray grabs his arm, trying to pull him up. “Come on, we’re both going to bed. And we’re going to cuddle the shit out of each other. And then we’re going to sleep. There’s no point in you staying dead on your feet like this.”
Ryan sighs but gives way, letting Ray drag him all the way to the bedroom. If Ray got determined on something, there was little Ryan could do to stop him. Ray yanks him down into the bed, telling him to stay put as he changed into pajamas.
“Ray, I appreciate the concern, but I’m fine,” Ryan tries.
“Ryan, don’t lie to me,” Ray finally snaps at him. “You aren’t fine! I don’t think I’ve even seen you sleep all week! I know you have insomnia, but this is worse somehow. Now either you can tell me what’s going on now, or you get some sleep and we’re having a conversation about it in the morning.”
Ryan freezes, not expected the anger out of the other. He glances away from him and sighs, running a hand through his hair.
“Morning,” Ryan eventually mumbles. “We’ll... Let’s talk in the morning.”
Ray gives a curt nod and slips into bed next to him. “Now get some sleep finally.”
Ryan nods, throwing an arm around Ray and pulling him close.
“I love you,” Ryan whispers against Ray’s hair as he kisses his head.
“I love you too,” Ray smiles as he rests against Ryan’s chest, feeling his warmth and hearing his heart beat steady in his chest.
And the two lay entangled as the night passes and bleeds to morning. And they lay together as the sun rises in the morning and the city wakes up. And they sleep against each other, feeling the most safe in each other’s arms.
