Oh what a lovely, lovely band. This was my jam for quite a while back in Terra Brasilis. Holy shit I listened to this ALOT. It’s just such great bounce around in a proto-hipster fashion, sing along, belt aloud in certain parts (the first AaAahhHhh is one such moment, possibly *coughcough*). It goes from a brit-pop-y, beat, bass, almost marching band-like feel, all the way into a Sigur Ros spaced out soul-hug where you’re not even aware of what you’re singing, have no idea if your words make sense (they probably don’t), and yet you keep yelling your made-up lyrics into the void, all the way into a full-blown party, which I can only compare to the opening scene of the amazing HBO series Treme (many songs of which shall also be featured here, because HOTFREAKINGDAMN IT’S GOOD). Just think of the whole neighborhood dancing on rooftops, on cars, lawns, the streets, EVERYWHERE! GLITTER, BASSOONS, TROMBONES, DRUMS, SNARES, BBQ, MORE GLITTER, CANNONS, FANFARRE. IT’S LIKE LES MISERABLES HAD A BABY WITH MIKA - ehm, got a bit carried away there. Conclusion: I love this. Whether it’s the shouting, the incomprehensible rhythm which fucks the dancing up, the party mood, or the memories of what we called alternative (see? proto-hypsters), it still gets me. I know it’s not completely accurate, but hey:
