Well hi! Those who follow me know I don't often post personal posts like this -but I've sat on this for a minute and I have to say something.
So, I've been seeing a few posts from some people here complaining about fanfic-related things. Stuff like why fics aren't this or that topic, why writers aren't writing certain fics, and so on.
As a fic writer myself, I do my best to put out content that I have spent time on, and enjoy writing and/or reading. I know it won't always be to everyone's tastes. BUT... I gotta say, it's incredibly annoying or disheartening to read posts that literally complain about fanfics that don't cater to an individual's tastes.
This isn't even about people not being able to express opinions because by all means, provide feedback. As writers, we feed on that sort of stuff, and there often isn't enough feedback. BUT some of these comments aren't what I would call feedback, they're simply complaints.
There are authors here and on other sites that put their time, efforts, ideas, soul sometimes, etc to provide content for readers to consume FOR FREE, and yet still there are those who have the audacity to moan that it isn't enough. Like, why not try writing something yourself that caters more to what you want to read?
I know not everyone likes to, or believes that they can, write -but we live in an age where there is basically so much help for those unable or unconfident to do so unaided. Give it a try maybe, get the ball rolling? Or sit down and put down your ideas and try to write yourself? You never know unless you try, you might come out with something that not only you love but others might too?
I get you can't please everyone all of the time, but I can't stand the ingratitude/demands of some of these attitudes, as if having people write fanfics for free is something they feel entitled to.
Any writers out there, I'd love to hear any thoughts on this. Surely it can't just be me who gets a bee in my bonnet about this? For the less outspoken ones out there, there's a short poll at the end of this post.
