QUESTION: Should I Post Links To My Fanfics Here?
As at least one of my followers already knows, I write fanfic. Specifically, I write femslash fanfiction about Kim and Shego from Kim Possible.
I'm not going to pretend I'm not self-conscious about it. I'm a straight, white, male adult writing about two canonically straight women on a recently ended children's cartoon falling in love with each other; it'd be weird if I wasn't (or would it be "weren't"? I never get that right) self-conscious about that. It sort of automatically sounds skeevy, doesn't it? I mean, I don't think anyone who's ever actually read the fics would say that, but that's how it sounds.
It's kind of like admitting to being a brony; while I think it's ridiculous and somewhat sexist to call someone a "pedophile" based on the fact that they like a TV show that isn't skewed toward their gender or age group (a reaction which I have personally witnessed, FYI), I absolutely understand the kneejerk defensive reaction some people have to that admission, because it does sound pretty odd for someone who looks and sounds like Seth Rogen to go, "Twilight Sparkle is my favorite pony of the Mane Cast!" I'm not saying the name-calling and otherizing is justified, because it isn't, but I can empathize with the name-calling impulse.
But, frankly, I'm not writing this stuff because it's "HAWT" or because it's "Two chicks doing it, brah!" or whatever. As I've always said, why would I spend years crafting stories with no onscreen sex and complex plots and themes outside of the romance - which tends to be one of many subplots in my longer works, and is never a bigger deal than anything else in the story - solely because I think "lesbians are HAWT", or whatever other dripping-with-disgusting-straight-white-dude-privilege reason I might have for writing what I write? If I want to see "HAWT lesbians doin' it", well, I have an internet connection, dig? I am pretty sure a quick Google search with SafeSearch on will turn up stuff that is more erotic than my stories, so Occam's Razor dictates that either I've got a sexual fetish for the tortuously slow composition of non-erotic stories, or I'm doing it for, you know, reasons that aren't hideously skeevy.
In any case (I told you I'm self-conscious about this), my intention with this blog up until now has been to keep it pretty much completely free of fanfic talk, and certainly of actual fanfic. While that's still the plan, I've since found that the Tumblrverse is much more receptive to fanfic than I first thought, so I can't see the harm in simply linking to my stories and fielding questions about them from interested parties, should there be demand for it. I'm never going to turn this into a blog about "shipping" or whatever, because that's not the point of it, and I'm never going to start recommending fanfics by other people here, for the same reason. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with either of those things, but they aren't things I'm interested in doing here.
So, would you all be interested in seeing my stuff, or should I keep ADABB one hundred percent fanfic-free? Should I start another Tumblr specifically for my fanfic? What do you guys think I should do?
