@fanforged sent: "it's fine. nothing i haven't dealt with before."
" Yeah, and before you didn't have me, so let's mix it up a little and let me help you. " bittersweet is the tone of choice as he forces a grin up at her from his kneeling position. it's a sick sense of deja vu on two or several accounts. as the golden flame flickers in the lantern, the sight of burned flesh and singed cloth makes itself known around her calf.
"I'm no stranger to burns, myself. One time, though, it got infected and let me tell you . . . " he gives her a wild look that reads need I say more? then he shrugs, rummaging through the bag he's stored away in this hideout, because it's the fall of Omashu all over again. A place he warned the people would fall if they didn't take direct action and found out the hard way when they refused his methods.
The Earth Kingdom seems to have an abundance of kings ready to fail their people for the sake of their own comfort. How different could it have been had his people tried being there for each other?
Up until he was out-voted in favor of retreat, the resistance force in Omashu had been doing alright. As history repeated, it was only Team Avatar's interference that prevented progress. He can't even be bitter about it though. Especially with the news announced with morbid pride : PRINCE ZUKO OF THE FIRE NATION HAS SLAIN THE AVATAR. the ripples after, all those whispers, the avatar is dead . . . the avatar was killed . . . his name was Aang . . . he was only 12. he did his best. the world is dark once more, their hope nothing but a short-lived flicker of light.
Jet finds himself wishing they had more time to understand each other. What sort of conversations could they have had with the right amount of time that was never on his side? Everything moved to fast or didn't budge in the slightest. Right now, he's the one doing his best. Too bad he didn't have Katara's healing ability. That'd be more useful than natural medicine and bandages.
" It'll be good bonding for us. Sit. " he continues to stare up at her until she gives in to getting a simple bandage on her leg. he's been here before many times, except . . . it's usually small kids. not full kyoshi warriors. but maybe they need to remember they're at least human, too. ( maybe he needs a mirror. )
