Fanart for Fang Li (as well as Yan Sui technically) from the Demon Lord Only Wants to Follow the Script.
Since I couldn’t find an official design or much fanart (maybe I was searching the wrong place though…), I sorta took creative liberty and created my own from the descriptions in the novel of Fang Li (as well as what I imagined Fang Li to be, lol) so I can use it for my art hehehe.
Coloring’s one of my weak points—but I am trying to get better at it, hence my attempt here—so any constructive criticism would be awesome my dudes🙏😔

ANYWAYS
I spent an EMBARRASSING amount of time tryna figure out this guy’s color palette, and how to balance the different shades of black. Hshsjsjskkdkd
The book might describe him as a hot, pale, sickly twink but too bad!!!! I am making him an scrugly otter who looks half-dead in a bad way. I am currently figuring out ways I can add to this 🤔
If you don’t know this novel, here’s like a quick summary without spoilers:
TW // mentions of suicide and SA
Fang Li kills himself, however instead of dying, he instead gets transmigrated into—imagine this—one of the really toxic, cliche yaois. Anyways, said yaoi is Xianxia-themed. Fang Li doesn’t know why he’s here, but apparently his soul is compatible with the villain, Yan Sui, and his body. Yan Sui is dead in this specific timeline because of a one in a thousand chance, however his role still must be filled in order for this world to continue existing.
Interesting, right? Unfortunately, we never get more information.
In order to fulfill his role, he must follow the canon. At the moment, he has transmigrated into the villain’s body at the time of Yan Sui’s death (via poison) and just before Yan Sui is supposed to “kidnap” Xie Huai and SA him. But Fang Li doesn’t want to do that, and in the future he uses a loophole to evade doing that.
Now hmmmm… Would I recommend you read The Demonlord Only wants to Follow the Script?
No.
And you might be like: “aren’t you the one making fanart????”
While yes, you are right, I still would not recommend it because while the book had an interesting, and intriguing, start, it just goes downhill from there unfortunately. I really liked the concept but the execution was not so good. Fang Li—instead of maintaining his initial characterization of this morally ambiguous, clever, yet cynical protagonist—literally becomes the thing he criticizes: a Gary Stu. A male y/n, to put it more crudely. And I understand that character development exists, that characters change and he needs to in this scenario (so he can be with the ML), but his development is done so shoddily and does not make sense at all. And for a solid majority of the book, it’s just misunderstandings and repetitive internal dialogue with little to no progression until the very ending.

Fang Li , the finished version 🚶
I forgot to put this in here
Did they really expected me to get attached to two random civilians meant to die...? Because I did
Fang Li
If I have enough motivation, I think I'll finish this idk. I kinda like the result
